I got my package (didn't even look suspicious even though I did not know the name of the sender, they used a real name rather than a Mudcat one) - so I'm still in the dark about who it is! Hee hee! But I'm being SO good, I'm waiting till the solstice. AND I have had a BRILLIANT idea for my Secret Santee... what was that upper limit on $$$ again??!?

I just received a PM from a VERY distraught Secret Santa who inadvertantly signed his name to a post in this thread. we Pm'd back and forth and have decided that very few Mudcat members if any even know his first name.....so the secret is still on. In fact, other than my husband who received all of the names and addresses, myself and this particular secret santa, I don't know if anyone knows anything other than the Mudcat sign-on. However, not all of you are quite so anonymous, so PLEASE be careful with your posts......ok? *BG*

Has the Diety of Chiroptera been a good little goddess? I am up to my tentacles shuffling lists, checking them twice and trying to decide if you are naughty or nice. then again - this is the 21st century - so perhaps nice - with a tinge of naughtiness is allowable?

Merry Christmas, Ella. I'm glad the 'Chicks' arrived safely. No, I didn't make the Christmas Stamp pin, but I'm very glad you like it. I'm just a guitar player, and not crafty at all. I thoroughly enjoyed being your secret Santa. The jokes and warmth came at a good time for me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your Christmas. I hope to come to the UK to visit Micca and Gervase sometime soon, and perhaps I'll get to meet you as well. I'll PM you as well.

In the meantime follow this link to my picture and imagine I'm giving you a Christmas hug.

Happy Holidays,

It is nice to know that I didn't get lost in the shuffle. I think I didn't mention that initially I drew my own name! It would have made the shopping part a lot easier; but the surprise factor would have been shot to hell.

I drew a new name though and have figured out something great!

Dear Secret Santa...

I think I know who you are, but I'm not quite sure...

I received my parcel last night. Yesterday was not a good day for me, and coming home to see a nice brown parcel leaning against my door in the dark made me all excited and cheered me up.

Thank you very much for my lovely present, it has exactly the same song I heard on the radio! It's brill, and I'm listening to it at work now!

I love the pin too, did you make it - it's excellent. My mom saw it and said what a nice touch. I love it.

I think you may be a, Mrrzy... a Blackcatter... or Carol C... though I don't think Carol participated so don't know who you are... Trying to suss out the writing is driving me nuts..

Cheers, and big thanks again.

I like my secret santa! And was a lovely surprise. What an excellent idea!

Ella

xx

PM, I'd like to thank you!

Oh, Dani, I've been thinking and looking over your list. Is there any one special item out of them all which you really, really, really, really want?

Also, the writer's book, is it a special edition or does it come out every year and you want the newest, or....how about a Letter to Santa to help me out?

Here's to sugarplums dancing in your head!

Hi Peg,

Have you been a good little girl all year? [Patronising, condescending Santa-type voice - including one of those annoying pats on the head]

Well, I'm just about to post off your gift - and it's not coming from the North Pole.

I looked at your hints and also at some of your recent postings. There were some excellent hints in one of those, and you didn't even know at the time that you would need to give SS hints.

Another source of suitably weird stuff (like bags of eyeballs).

I do truly lust after Charley Noble's rubber squid, though, and I've been checking bait shops and not finding one like it.

Sorry, Santa Squid!

I've not been spending a lot of time on-line lately for various reasons, even after Jeri started teasing me about her above posts.

Ah, yes, I have, ah, "eccentric" tastes. Our house, an owner-built post and beam cape on 33 acres of treed and rocked hillside, is decorated in rubber lizards and rubber snakes, crawling up posts and draped around beams. The walls are filled with gravestone rubbings -- my life's work, pre-1825 mostly, particularly interested in typographic ligatures; how's THAT for obscure? -- maps, and deer skulls (the smaller skulls are on the shelves. I collect rubber squid, flamingoes, hippocampuses, printing paraphenalia and rubberstamps. (I used to have a business called The Rubbersmith, specializing in folk music, Thomas Edison, and gravestone rubberstamps -- wanna buy a rubberstamp company? -- but it didn't leave me enough time to do the art stamping I enjoy. (Come to think of it, working for a living as a graphic designer & copyeditor doesn't leave me enough time, either.) In another lifetime, I'd be a marine archaeologist. Curmudgeon and I give each other body parts, uh, RUBBER or other artificial materials, body parts for sigificant gift giving occasions -- such as museum quality repro skulls, a rubber bag full of eyeballs, a ball made out of rubber fingers, paper clips that look like ears and pencil sharpeners in the shape of a nose, etc. (The 10 year old next door LOVES to visit!) The origins of that custom is lost in the mists of pre-history. Oh yeah, bats. We should really get a government grant as a wildlife refuge (not to mention musicians -- they're wildlife, too, eh?) cuz we've got a nursery colony of Little Brown Bats, a window grey squirrel "terrarium" and flying squirrels in the dormer (drat!).

Goddesses (especially Sarasvati), maps and globes, shells and bones and skulls and rocks and crystals and just interesting old stuff. The only thing I "need" is slate cutting tools, now that I've acquired some direction, good advice and a coupla good books.

Does this help? If my Secret Santa is AllanC, slate from your quarry, but postage/shipping would be mucho buckso, alas.

Does this help? Jeri, Sinsull, Micca, etc. could be PMed.

Linn, the Bat Goddess, Cat Goddess and Type Goddess (would you like serifs with that?)

Look Mrs Nureyev, I can't help it if Rudolf Nureyev is still not home, yes... I know he's on the Bakerloo line still. But if Liz isn't telling what can I do. Old Rudolf is like a gnome possed when he doesn't get his requests answered.

What's that, his pants are fousty... well, he should be okay, I'm guessing he has freshend up in the loos.

oh, hem hem...

HEY! Gnome number two, how's the modelling of the Chocolate covered Sean Connery going for Liz, I know she wanted him in her stocking last year, but I'm trying to go one better...... what's that, Sean won't sit still long enough for it to set...

SEAN... SIT STILL.

Liz, I'm doing my best. Can't promise my plan will work...

I have not guessed yet...

just lately they have put on a once a week stage coach from Heathrow to Wales, but it's run by a load of threadbare, ready for the old mules home team of four rusty old looking Welsh cobs... (that's a breed of horse).

Which of course gives the donkeys a day or two off as they only run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Stage Coach runs on High Days and holidays...

oooo can't wait!
