Joel Elias is a traditional Ladino vocalist and guitarist, and he will be appearing in Brooklyn, NY, on December 14, 2001. Ladino is the Spanish-based language of the Jews who were expelled from Spain in 1492. Some migrated to Holland, but most settled in North Africa or in the Ottoman Empire. Joe Elias is one of the few living Ladino musicians who actually learned his music through his family.

Here are the details of the concert, presented by the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club with the cooperation of Polytechnic University as part of the larger Music at Metrotech program.

Place: Wunsch Hall, Polytechnic University
Metrotech Center, Brooklyn, NY

Date and time: Friday, Dec 14, 2001, at 8 PM

Admission: $10.
NY Pinewoods members: $9.
Polytechnic students: free.

For more information, please call Evy Mayer at (718) 549-1344 after 11 AM only.

Be there!

Adios mis amigos, Chaim y Shoshana...

Just kidding, of course!

I can not, alas, attend this concert as I am performing that day in Philadelphia, but I urge everyone who is interested in Jewish or Spanish culture to hear this magnificent singer. I have been a Joe Elias fan for twentyfive years, and I am never less than blown away by the power and clarity of his voice. Joe lives in semi-retirement now. He is, dare I say it, a senior senor, but that trumpet of a voice is as sweet and strong as ever. I am the CD reviewer for Tune Up, a publication of the Philadelphia Folksong Society. I've heard a lot of fine singers over these last ten years but none finer than Joe. Mike Miller
