Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: CarolC Date: 19 Nov 01 - 07:31 PM Ooohhhhh...
There are just so many jokes I could make out of that! (not going to do it... practicing self control for Thanksgiving...) |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: SeanM Date: 19 Nov 01 - 07:43 PM *ahem* 1) Wow! I didn't know you could pardon yourself! 2) Well, you knew he'd bail his father out eventually... 3) Guess the Republican Chairman can return from hiding. 4) Are you sure he didn't just confuse it with Bill Gates? 5) One turkey pardoned by another in the Oval Office... 6) And the Supreme Court is considering altering the pardon process to make sure that the turkey gets eaten anyway. 7) Guess we know that the turkey's not an Afghani then. Just in the spirit of a gauntlet thrown. I'm aware it's an incredibly stupid holiday tradition going back for some amount of time. But still, as Carol said... M |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: Mark Cohen Date: 19 Nov 01 - 10:06 PM Careful, Doug, a few more jokes like that and people will think you're turning into a liberal! [Insert silly winking grinning face here.] Happy Thanksgiving. Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Nov 01 - 10:10 PM Actually.............Dumbassya is simply the latest in a long series to "Pardon the Turkey" before Thanksgiving. This wacko tradition was started by Harry Truman. I would say that Geraald Ford pardoned the biggest turkey of all though........... Spaw |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: DougR Date: 19 Nov 01 - 11:05 PM Only one "a" in Gerald, Spaw! We must be correct around here, or some guest will come along and correct "us." To the rest of you, you will be blessed for your constraint! DougR |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Nov 01 - 11:20 PM He may have only one "a" Doug, but it's BIG ONE. Not only did the guy pardon Nixon, he ardently defended the "Magic Single Bullet Theory".......you know that one right? Where you take a high velocity bullet, shoot it through two bodies allowing it to hit assorted bones and cartilage, and emerge completely unscathed and undistorted with the same weight it had as before it was fired. The fact that no one has ever been able to duplicate the feat with any similar bullet never persuaded Jerry one iota. In the dictionary by the word imbeciles there is a picture of Ford and Arlen Specter proudly holding a copy of the Warren Report. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: GUEST,BigDaddy Date: 19 Nov 01 - 11:34 PM Oh brother, Spaw...don't get me started on that one. Or maybe you should, as the anniversary is upon us once again. That whole fiasco is responsible for much of my being permanently pissed off. Does anyone besides myself remember Clinton promising to open up long-sealed files (if he were elected) in order to shed light on the assassination? I may stick around another 37 years just to see what excuse is given for not opening such files at the end of the 75 year restriction. |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: Rick Fielding Date: 20 Nov 01 - 12:22 AM OH Lordy Boys! That "magic bullet" troubled me for sooo many years. Even more than the rest of the mountain of evidence......UNTIL......... One day a friend said to me: "What would you do if you were on the Warren Commission and the CIA (or FBI or whoever) came to you and said: Look, it's quite obvious that this reaches DEEP within the Government, and involves organized crime, and national security issues. PLEASE find a way for us to keep our Constitutional structure functioning. We simply CAN'T allow this to become public at this time. The lack of trust will surely undermine us for years to come. Maybe sometime long in the future, the people can deal with it...but they wouldn't be able to now. For the survival of our system...you MUST put this to bed." Were I in that position, I probably would have agreed. I think the next generation will be given most of the story. Rick |

Subject: RE: Help: Who Says? From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Nov 01 - 09:16 AM Rick, what you say is not unthought of by many and it's more frightening than thinking that they were just not too good at investigating or deducing. I think another possible explanation comes under the heading of "Nah...can't be." The reality of what they were seeing was simply too incredulous to be assimilated. At the time, Oswald was the likely suspect and all protestations to the contrary simply didn't fit. I mean they may have fit the crime, but not the perceived circumstances. Some things that the conspiracy believers have thought, have also been disproved over the years so it's easy to see how the trail was traced in the Warren Report. For instance, it was a longtime bulwark of the conspiracy theorists that one bullet could not have gone through both bodies without doing odd twists and turns and changing direction. This has been explained through computer modeling and precise timing locating of the positions of Connelly and Kennedy. On the other hand it does make the condition of Magic Bullet even more ridiculous and show it to be a "plant." Who would have planted it though and again why didn't we investigate that. Possibly because it simply was an explanation that worked at the time? I dunno'............. I don't think that anyone was some mysterious "X" that knew all the answers. I doubt that any "X" came to the commission either. But I still think that for every 5 pieces that fit, one piece didn't, and it was easier to make the piece fit than to continue to investigate. None of this excuses the gawdawful and slipshod investigation that took place when the case was reopened under the committee to look into past assasinations....that was a bigger joke. Future generations may find out, but will they believe.....or have we played the game so long that we will never know what to believe? Was Oswald any more than just a patsy? Ruby? The autopsy was still a disaster that we can never replicate. Too many people unaccounted for.........I would have hoped that any of us sitting on the original commission would have had more sense and more courage......but it's simply a hope. Fun to speculate.
