Subject: Ave Maria From: Genie Date: 19 Dec 01 - 02:07 AM Please don't scream at me because this isn't a folk song, but I have tried to find the lyrics on the internet and it's not all that easy. Likewise, the forum search; the song is mentioned in several threads, but I haven't found the lyrics. I need them quickly, and I thought one of you good Catholic Mudcatters--or just 'catters who like singing in Latin--might just happen to have the lyrics lying around on your desktop ... If you know of a good website where I can get the lyrics, please let me know. Or if you would like to email them to me, I'm at geniesings@onebox.com. Thanks ever so much. Genie |

Subject: Lyr Add: AVE MARIA (Latin, from Gregorian Chant) From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Dec 01 - 03:17 AM Hi, Genie - It kind of depends which version of the "Ave Maria" you're singing. Here is the basic edition, the words that are sung in Gregorian Chant (MIDI Here). AVE MARIA Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum; Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen. Translation is the standard "Hail Mary": Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee Blessed art thou among women And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen. The first part is Scripture, from the Gospel of Luke (Lk 1:28 and 1:42). The second part was added. The current form dates back to about the eleventh century. Here's the Schubert version, which is a bit different: Ave Maria (Franz Shubert) Ave Maria Gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus Et benedictus fructus ventris Ventris tuae, Jesus. Ave Maria Ave Maria Mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus Ora pro nobis Ora, ora pro nobis peccatoribus Nunc et in hora mortis Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Ave Maria You'll find MIDI arrangements of various version of the Ave Maria here (click). I think the lyrics posted in the first message must be the Bach/Gounoud version. -Joe Offer- |
