Looking for info on a song with the following two verses:

Oh, the old apple tree in the orchard Lives in my me-he-mory! It was planted by my pappy; He was handsom, young and happy, When he planted the old apple tree!

Oh, one day Pappy took Sister Norton Out to a ja-ham-boree! When he brought home at sun-up Brother Norton raised his gun up And Pappy climbed in the old apple tree...

Any info would be appreciated

Welcome to the wonders of Mudcat. If you move up to the top of the page, and click on Forum Search, you'll get to a page with a search request for past threads. Enter Old Apple Tree in the box that says "Body" (it may not appear in the title), and you'll find all the threads that mention that phrase. I believe the second one displayed has the words you're looking for.

The lyrics have been posted in these threads:

old apple tree in the orchard (version #1)

THE OLD APPLE TREE (version #2)

The song "was written by M.K. Jerome and Jack Scholl for the Humphrey Bogart movie, 'Swing Your Lady' (1938), and the tune was subsequently featured as background music to several Warner Brothers cartoons. Bob Crosby and His Orchestra also recorded a version of it." (From HERE).
The Old Apple Tree [Realaudio] sung by A'mt Idy Harper & Coon Creek Girls (Vocalion 04203, June 1938), from Honkingduck.

My twin brother and I used to sing this song when we were 3, apparently when it first became popular. Our aunt would stand us up on a table and we'd perform. I recall the words a little differently:
"There's an old apple tree in the orchard,
and it brings back such fond mem-ories.
If my pappy had-a knowed it,
He never would have growed it,
'cause he died on that old apple tree.

(chorus)
Say goodbye, say goodbye,
Say goodbye to that old apple tree.
If my pappy had-a knowed it,
He never would have growed it,
'Cause he died on that old apple tree.

Pappy - took Widder Norton,
Out on a wild jam-boree.
When he brought her in at sun-up,
Father Norton raised his gun up,
and he chased Pappy up in that tree."

(repeat chorus)

That's all I remember, from 64 years ago. Maybe that's all we ever learned.

-- It was fun to see this old song in print. I'd never seen it before.      Doug (in the Missouri Ozarks)
