Can anyone tell me the chords to Robert Johnson's "Kitchen Song?" I looked on the digitrad and didn't find it. I have the lyrics, plus some I've written myself, to make it girly, but I don't know the chords and it does something funny that I can't figure out.

Thanks, WW

WW, you can find some tabs and chords for all Johnson songs on Harry's blues site:

'Come on in my kitchen' Take 1

Stewie -- I appreciate your over-estimation of my ability to read and/or deliver upon tabulature. I'm willing, but those notations are completely meaningless to me. Is there a way to play it with open chords in regular tuning?

Sorry to be such a beginner but, well, I am ...

Thanks, ww

WW, they are totally meaningless to me too - I'm not even a beginner. I simply knew they were there and hoped they might be of some use to you.

Cheers, Stewie.

Oh, thanks. I appreciate your over-estimation of my abilities. That's always much nicer than the opposite! ;->

Maybe someone will come along and pass on some nice open chords to me and I'll be able to add another song to the notches on my guitar strap.

Thanks again -- ww

Wyo,

RJ plays this in either a flat open A or a sharp open G —— take your pick. I'd opt for the G, coz I don't like tuning higher than standard. Tune (from treble to bass) D - B - G - D - G - D.

That will give you a G maj. in the open position, C maj. barred at the 5th fret and D maj. barred at the 7th fret.

This song, and a lot of other RJ tunes, can be played this way, but they'll have a very different feel if you don't use the slide.

cheers,

david

Thanks, there, David. I wonder if maybe I didn't ask the right question. My understanding of open chords, as opposed to bar chords, is that they're the chords you can play without having to press one finger down to hold all the strings at once. I don't play bar chords yet because my fingers aren't strong enough to do so. I'm working on it, but it still sounds like mush. So if I tune the guitar to an open tuning, I still have to bar something, right? I may not be *there* yet. But it's great to have a goal. Imagine. Wouldn't it be great to play SLIDE guitar? God, that'd be a dream come true ...

I'm not being humble, by the way. Just honestly assessing my skill level.

ww
