Does ant body know the words to this sonf? I don't know who sind it or what it is called, but a man in The Tap & spile sang it last week and it's really nice.Some of the words aere " and american busness men snap up van goghs for the price of a hospital wing" And Traffic lights are mentioned in the song as well, i think it is by Ocean Colour Scene but im' not really sure.THanks.john

Actually it called "Nothing Ever Happens" is by Del Amitri and was a hit in 1990.

Never mind the 'Non Folk' in the title John! This scottish band (Del Amitri) have done more for bringing folk music into mainstream than a lot of other so called folk bands. Have a listen to the original and tell us it is not folk!

Liz - Hope you are having one of those wonderful squeeky laughs. Now prove to us how Madonna's 'Nothing really matters' or Metallica's 'Nothing else matters' became Del Amitri's 'Nothing ever happens' and I will buy you beer for a night at the next gathering!!! I consider the original 'folk' simply because it is good and tells a story btw. I find it quite interesting that your definition of folk is 'because it has an acoustic guitar and an accordion'. Does that mean that Paris cafe music is Folk? Or simply that your definition is as flawed as your views on some women???

BTW - I met Kevin Parrott at a Folk club sometime over the last 10 years so Brian at least was, and I think still is, a Folky. I was introduced to Iain Harvie, I think, back in the 80's where he was playing mandolin at a session somewhere. So I guess the precident for me categorising Del Amitri's 'Nothing ever happens' is a little coloured by my previous experience. Apart from the fact that it is covered very regularly at lots of folk clubs

It's a folk song in MY book as well... I can think of a lot of 'electric rock' bands that have written some really cool folk-songs as well...

Both bands were on We Could Be Kings, Del Amitri doing Nothing Ever Happens, perhaps they were played in conjunction on the radio, hence the confusion.
