Subject: Mrs. McGrath Parody
From: Bev and Jerry
Date: 27 May 02 - 08:19 PM

A couple of weeks ago we were singing in a pub in County Tipperary and Michael Smith, the Irish Minister of Defense, sang a parody of Mrs McGrath which started, "Mrs. McGrath, the sergeant said, would you like to make a DOCTOR out of your son, Ted?". We thought it was pretty good although it was after midnght and we were several pints into the singing. Anyone got the words to this parody?

Bev and Jerry

p.s. Yes, we do travel in high level political circles sometimes.

Awright, y'all. At least one of you knows this parody. If no one responds this time we'll be forced to go directly to the Irish government.

Yet another
"To Mrs. Mary Tack oul' Lloyd George said,
"I will make a Black and Tan out of your son Ted.
With a mixed-up suit and a Glengarry hat,
Now, Mrs. Mary Tack, wouldn't you like that?"

Can anyone supply the rest of this?
Annraoi

Bev and Jerry. Go to the Irish Government.... You're far enough away from me for safety. See if I care....

Oops! Hang on but. On second thoughts, any voluntary approach to any government department is probably setting a dangerous precedent. safer just to write your own version and if they come looking for you, plead the headaches.

Ireland should count its self lucky to have a Minister of Defence who knows the song Mrs McGrath, yet alone a parody of it.

Chris:

We agree. He's a cool guy and did some other nice songs, too. But, we couldn't help laughing when we thought, "What are the chances of meeting Donald Rumsfeld in a bar some night and singing some songs with him?"

Well, the UK equivalent would be the Secretary of Defence, a lad called Geoff Hoon (mind, if you asked that in a pub quiz there'd be very few takers!) - and I gather from this web page that "Geoff Hoon enjoys music enormously, having been past Chairman of the 'Friends of Music Parliamentary Group'." So maybe he should be invited to emulate his Irish counterpart.

But of course he's got to worry about the Public Entertainment Licence regulations, unlike Michael Smith "in a pub in County Tipperary."

So. No one is admitting to knowing this parody. Very well. You force us to take drastic action. We have contaced the Minister of Defence of the Irish Government about this matter. Mudcat will probably be attacked by Ireland within a week.

Note to Max: Sound general quarters and start massing troops on the border. (Does Mudcat have a border with Ireland?)

But, we'll get the words to this song.

Bev and Jerry
