It certainly is a mess. From what I've read about Townes, his life was a mess at times as well, but he kept producing those great songs. The poets words live on and I for one will keep his songs alive. It's amazing when you sing one of Townes songs someone will always come up to you and ask about it. I have had a great time introducing many people to the work of TVZ and they become instant fans.I am especially pleased to have introduced TVZ to young people in our folk scene. Now they are coming back to me with Townes material they have learnt. As you can see from my Mudcat name I admire the mans work and will continue to push his poetry to who ever is interested. Regards.

All of it seems to be a great big mess. I suspect though I don't know that the man would have just as soon turned his back on the whole thing. neil

The guest (GUEST,Res) in the posts above was Neal Smelser, a friend of Townes and his family and a wonderful singer in his own right.

I reported, in another thread that Neal died suddenly on June 26.

yes as a folk music society friend quotes:

The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." --Hunter S. Thompson

Fact is, the bulk of Townes' songs werew ritten when he was in his twenties, and there are already several versions of each tune available. His legacy is based on the beauty of these tunes and the honesty of his performances. Anything in the future will probably just be a recycling effort to line someone's pockets. Personally, I hope Janene gets the bulk of what's left to be earned, since TVZ certainly put her and the kids through some kind of pain and deprivation with his careless ways.

Wow. Ain't it amazing, the booby traps on the trail?

Maybe he's better off flamed out than wrassling with all this crap, eh?
