Subject: Cobweb of Dreams From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jun 02 - 10:45 AM Can anyone help me with the words to this duet please? It's by Joy Masefield and Leon Rosselson, recorded by Roy Bailey amongst others, but I can't find it in the DT. There is a mention of it in a 1997 thread about duets, but no lyrics. Thanks. LTS |
Subject: Lyr Add: COBWEB OF DREAMS (Masefield, Rosselson) From: GUEST,HP Date: 30 Jun 02 - 02:46 PM I know that Sara Grey & Ellie Ellis have recorded 'Cobweb of Dreams'. I have written out the lyrics as I've heard them, but if anyone has corrections, I'd be grateful to see them. Cobweb of Dreams (Joy Masefield and Leon Rosselson) I have been searching through the timeless past Because of you, my love, because of you Weaving a cobweb that will hold you fast Because of you my love, because of you. The song that set the bells of Heaven ringing. The song that surely told me The grave could never hold me Because of you, my love, because of you. And now I know that love's a fragile flower Because of you my love, because of you So little time between the sun and showers Because of you, my love, because of you. Only by singing can I soothe my sorrow Because of you, my love, because of you. Today is gone, but there is always tomorrow Because of you, my love, because of you. added --- ---Jeff (PA)--- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams From: Susanne (skw) Date: 30 Jun 07 - 08:54 PM Rather than start a new thread, I'll put my request in here: Does anyone know how to reach Joy Masefield? A guy who'd like to record 'Cobweb of Dreams' is trying to reach her. Leon Rosselson told him he'd lost contact with her so any info would be appreciated. PM me or send an emil to skw at worldmusic dot de. Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Jul 07 - 09:46 AM I'd be glad to help, but first, tell me everything you know about Joy Masefield. Like where does she (or did she) live? Does she have a day job? Is she married? Was she ever part of a band? Where has she performed? What instruments does she play? Has she ever recorded any music? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams From: Susanne (skw) Date: 04 Jul 07 - 08:24 PM Jim, I know she is co-author of the above song, together with Leon Rosselson. Apart from that - zero. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams From: Liz the Squeak Date: 05 Jul 07 - 12:42 PM Try Roy Bailey - he's recorded the song and either he or his recording label will probably have details for sending royalties. LTS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams (Masefield, Rosselso From: Susanne (skw) Date: 07 Jul 07 - 03:17 AM Isn't his company Fuse Records? Which would mean Leon Rosselson - see my first post above. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams (Masefield, Rosselson) From: GUEST,Robin Masefield Date: 04 Jun 11 - 05:42 AM I am Joy Masefield's son. My mother, who died a few years ago in her nineties, wrote the words for her Son et Lumiere production at Towersey parish church in the late 1960s. She was very pleased that Roy Bailey and Leon Rosselson became involved in her various productions. (Basically she taught herself how to write folk songs to highlight key scenes in the storyline. I remember her listening to Ewan McColl and various Irish ballads initially. She always had an interest in the theatre, writing scripts, acting and producing prolifically and successfully at amateur level.) She then formed a company with Colin Saunders and Giles Brandreth - Archway Productions - which put on professional son et lumieres at Temple Newsam House near Leeds and the Greenwich Observatory (the latter for Oxfam, starring John Gielgud, Alec Guinness, Claire Bloom and others). I love the Cobweb of Dreams - it was the finale at Towersey, and I helped do the lighting and sound every night for the two week run; many happy memories. My mother was so pleased when I told her some years ago that at least one of her songs was played professionally. I have recordings of all the soundtracks of the son et lumieres if anyone is interested, and one or two 45 vinyl records of the Towersey and Greenwich songs. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams (Masefield, Rosselson) From: GUEST Date: 19 Sep 12 - 05:19 AM to robin Masefield, I did a search for archway productions and came up with nothing. I, too, would like to include Cobweb of Dreams on a forthcoming CD of all original tunes excepting that one. it would be a so-called bonus track but will definitely be included in the personal gift version of he CD for the woman it is dedicated to. if you can give ANY info on how to get the rights to record and publish the son for commercial release it would be GREATLY appreciated. I've contacted Roy bailey's current label and am awaiting a reply but if you could give a more direct channel... thanks, Paul |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cobweb of Dreams (Masefield, Rosselson) From: GUEST,Derek Schofield Date: 21 Sep 12 - 05:49 AM Very interesting information from Robin Masefield. I am writing the history of Towersey festival in time for the 50th festival in 2014, and will want to include something on the Son et Lumiere. I wonder if Robin could contact me please via the Towersey festival website. info@towerseyfestival.com He may not read this message so if anyone on this thread had contact with him, could they let me know please? Thanks I am also looking for a copy of the Towersey son et lumiere EP recording - if anyone has a copy they can put on CD for me I'd be most grateful. Thanks Derek Schofield |
