I remember listening to a song by Peter Paul & Mary ???with lyrics like " the greenest green are the grass on which you lay and the bluest blue are your eyes" ??!! etc. Also "reddest red" were mentioned.

The lyrics were probably trivial but I have a specific memory attached to that song and would like to hear it again

The song came of a single or an EP. Maybe it wasn't PP&M ?. Anyway, I cant find it anywhere. Can somebody help !!

That would be The Greatest Song I've Ever Heard, I think. It was written by Dick Holler and recorded by Cher, on the album Half-Breed (1973): The Greatest Song I Ever Heard.

It also appeared on Bittersweet White Light in the same year. It may have been recorded by others, of course, but the Cher references are the only ones I've found.

ThomasN, welcome! I know what you mean about having a piece of a song stuck in your mind; but you can't quite connect it with enough to put a name to it.

I am not familiar with a PP&M song that contains that kind of wording. One of the few "colorful" songs I can think of right now is "Ruby Red" by the Kingston Trio. The song appeared on the flip side of the "Tom Dooley" single. You can find it by clicking here and scrolling down. I doubt it is a match.

Stretching a bit more, I might mention that Arlo Guthrie's "If I Could Only Touch Your Life" (released as a single in about 1972) contains the lines, "So green the trees and oh so blue the skies When you are looking through a lover's eyes." Again, I have little faith that it is a match.

By the way, it is extremely useful to include a part of the lyric in the Subject of a lyric request, such as, "Greenest Green". You would get more response that way - especially if you labeled it as a lyric request. Take a look at the Mudcat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide near the top of the main Forum page for more hints.

Good luck!

Wow, Malcolm! Nice catch! Sorry to have muddied the waters.

BTW, I was wrong by ten years on the Arlo Guthrie song. It was about 1982.
