From: Gareth

Yes it's Mudmoney time again. I am happy to say that Friends of Mudcat has received it's bank statement, and thanks to some generous donations, we have £152.00 in cleared funds. £150.00 will be transmitted via Bill/Sables in the very near future.

(NB £150.00 aproximates to US$225.00)

This includes some standing orders, donation per cheque, and a crdit trasfer of £5.00 whose origin I can not determne to say that it has been safely received. Please take this please as the ack'.

Now on other matters regarding Friends of Mudcat. The constitution says that we should meet at least twice a year. Unfortunately the the Llanstock gathering this year was cancelled which rather put the dampers on a quick business meeting. I am not sure what the answer is for for transparency Micca, John Routledge and myself are keen that all matters are open for inspection and audit.

Micca has come up with the suggestion that we open a meeting room in the Mudchat for a question and answer session. John and I concur.

Time and date, well we need to give at least a weeks warning and my own feeling is that 10.30 on a Sunday Morning (UK Time) might be possible.

I shall post the accounts on the Web at a Clicky address well before the time and date when ever that may be.

In the meantime we solicit your comments and suggestions, here or in Pm's or E Mail Me at garethwilliams@gareth72.fsnet.co.uk

Gareth, for FoM.

And it isn't Uk - it's the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

But a thread header is limited to the number of characters it can contain, so commonly understood abbreviations have to be used to squeeze all the sense in.

"British Isles" might fit, but some people (wrongly) assume that that's a political rather than a geographical title.

How about "ROI" or "RoI"? Or does it have to be bilingual, too?

Anonymous GUEST, explain please? Still says Eire on the stamps... (well, actually ÉIRE)

And when we say "Friends of Mudcat" of course properly we should say "Friends of the Mudcat Café" - or even "Friends of the Mudcat Café and Digital Tradition".

And then we can get into the discussion to whether it is "Friends of the Mudcat Café and Digital Tradition in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland together with the Republic of Ireland and the Isle of Man" or "Friends of the Mudcat Café and Digital Tradition in the British Isles" or"Friends of the Mudcat Café and Digital Tradition in Great Britain and in Ireland, together with the Isle of Man"...

Pedantically speaking Éire is correct in Irish, and Ireland is correct in English. So calling it Éire is a bit like referring to Paris and pronouncing it French style. At least some people think that.

<"...the suggestion that we open a meeting room in the Mudchat" - I thought for a moment the idea was to hold the Friends of Mudcat meeting in cyberspace. I suspect that wouldn't be legal at this point. But sooner or later, why not? But all done in a virtual reality Mudcat Tavern, with our Avatar moving around and so forth.

Actually is there anything to stop us having a meeting, adjourning it, and having another meeting later the same day, if there's a problem about meeting the two a year quota?

I think guset is just trying to make trubble, and peeple should ignore it.
Anyway i got a suggestion=Why not say that ant body going to a mudcat gathering, should pay 5 pounds, and send it to mudcat, if 20 people go, it makes 100 pounds, and it is worth more than 5 quid to meet other mudcat members and hear them sing/play music, and if it was not for mudcat, there would not be any gatherings anyway so it is werth it.john
P.S. This is just a sugestion, if any body dosent like it , then thats ok.

Watch out, Kevin, there be pedants lurking hereabouts.

If you adjourn it, it counts as a continuation of the same meeting, even if it's days, weeks or months later. What you have to do is formally close the meeting, after announcing that the date of the next meeting is two hours hence.

That should cross enough Ts and dot enough Is to keep everyone happy. "Where does it say in the constitution that the two meetings per year have to be on different days?"

Well Leadfingers, you see this contract here, just slit a vein and sign up. Mudcat now officially owns your soul, your former sleeping hours and any original thought you might ever have! And you get to pay for the privilege! Just make your pay cheques over to 'Get Gareth to the Bahamas for half the year' and then you can recieve the Tshirt for only another £19.99!

(Joke!)

Basically it's a bank account that was set up as an easy point for money to be donated by the people on this side of the pond. Periodically it gets cleared out and sent over to Max to put into the kitty as it were. PM Gareth and he will give you details of the bank account or do a search for Friends of Mudcat threads. There was one in Feb, just after Stony Stratford, where this was all started.

And you were right McGrath - as yet, voxconf meetings are not acceptable simply because we haven't included them in the constitution. Regretablly, to change the constitution it needs a face to face meeting of at least half the members (quorate will not do for constitutional changes). Of course, if we were to arrange a meeting for a day (much like Morris Ales or days of dance) in some likely pub, house or hall or a get together at one of the later festivals (Bedworth springs to mind - last Sat in November), that would serve nicely.

And if we are going to be pedantic, it should have been UK, both capitals.

Terry - PM Gareth with an e-mail address and he'll send you the standing order form and details of FOTM.

Mmmmm ! Not sure I like the thought of 6 months in the Bahamas. I would miss the Royal Oak Ystrad Mynach, and the Ship @ Hollow Shore.

E-Mails will be going to those that indicated interest tonight, sorry but I've only just got home and I have one or two otherthings to do as well like eat etc.

Certainly there is no substitution of an actual meeting but the thought was a dedicated chat room might give the oportunity to have a question and answer sesion.

In reply to John from Hull's suggestion, a whip road at Stoney Stratford was held and this provided the original funds to set up the account - albeit it took some work with the bank to get banking facilities.

A question I have been asked is why don't we just publish the Account details and provide downloadable Standing order forms. Well where you have these facilities with all details open to anyone to view you have the opportunity for fraud. Other organisations such as say major charities run an open detail account known as a collection account. All monies received are transfered directly to a closed detail account by the bank. This would have increase costs, and the work. So for the moment we will run on just one closed (to the public) account.

Regards and thanks

Many years ago, when Herga needed to have an AGM for various bureaucratic reasons, John Heydon scheduled it for the first Monday in August in the Dove, Sidmouth (rather than the Royal Oak, Peel Road Wealdstone, where the folk club usually meets), on the grounds that that was were most members of the club were likely to be found. It's probably too late to organise a Friends of Mudcat meeting for Banbury Folk and Good Music weekend (starting tomorrow) but there's always Bedworth Festival, or Haddenham Folk Day....

At the present time I feel that the ability of contributors and Mudcatters to ask questions and discuss FoM matters is of importance.

Therefore the proposal for a dedicated chat room is to be welcomed pending of course a 3D meeting at a convenient location.
