i promise no garlic or other stinkies...
and nothing to drink--although perhaps
you are not a tee totaller.
what the heck is Yorkshire pudding?
does it grow on trees there or it that only
in west Y?
you must be good with your hands or paws-
i'll have my reindeer sniff out something
lovely for you....

I live in the home of Robinson Crusoe and have had to send Man Friday out to scour for hints.    Apparently you've given so many I'm even more confused as to what to send you from this island!!!!    I note you like cookbooks but Man Friday hasn't had chance to write one yet!!!!   Besides his cooking isn't that wonderful.

We did think of getting you some German beer but we drank it!!!

Not a lot to do on an island.........

Lappish? No, my dear old poop, I'm your @#$%ing Santee, not THE Santa. I "never own anything I have to feed or paint" particularly if they have cloven feet. This ain't "Miracle on 34th st, and my name ain't Edmund, see?"

Now Metamorph into the kitchen an fix me a nice cup of bat broth, will you? It's Holloweenie.

Put on your thinking cap, Moomie, did you remember who said: "...the fish were so thick you could walk across their backs...", while shopping for some native love?

hoe, ho', @#$%ing hoe.

best regards, yer Santy.

I've asked you for some more details so Santa can send you something to suit your personality. Please check out my posting there.

A tree would be lovely, Secret Santa. There are plenty to spare in Santaland are there? I'd imagined a lot of snow, but perhaps you have pine forests.Male sure you hang a few extra presents on it please.

OK, OK...you figured out that I don't want an autographed picture of the Bush family. But you see, the problem is that as soon as I give a hint, I'll immediately think, "Well, I really don't like that as much as I like those 25 other things..." I know, that doesn't help. What I'd REALLY like is a turntable that works, and a CD burner...but I'm NOT asking for those. I do have a CD player, and in addition to the kind of music they play on Folkscene.com I also like jazz (smooth, not raucous), klezmer, "world" (like the Putumayo series), fingerstyle guitar, and anything with vocal harmonies, from shape notes to shanties to swing. I even like Gregorian chants (I know, they don't have harmonies). I like songbooks, music books, photography books, travel books, natural history books, history books, just about any books except for Danielle Steele novels, old maps, games, carved wood, interesting music-makers (in Disneyland I found a wooden frog from Vietnam that makes a very froglike sound when you rub it's serrated back with a stick) and "scientific" toys like kaleidoscopes and prisms and such. Edibles are good, though they have a tendency to disappear...and I don't eat any parts of anything that used to walk. Or fruitcake. And, as I said, something that is unique to your area would be preferable....unless you live in Las Vegas, I suppose. Now maybe you can be creative and surprise me! And Thank you, very much indeed.

Aloha,
Mark

Very clever, dear. And I have taken several excursions into the land of purple only to come up mostly empty-handed EXCEPT for a lovely purple angel for your tree...MAYBE! Serves you right if you end up with a "Flying Purple People Eater". They are currently featured in every discount store this side of the Pond. They sing and dance. Most annoying. Come to think of it, annoying toys are my trademark. Bet at least one 'Catter knows who I am.

It took me a while to figure out what "RPG" meant (Real Pretty Guitars? Revolutions Per Gallon? Rosencrantz Popped Guildenstern?) but I got it. And you're going to get it! An RPG, that is. Once again, not to be confused with Giok's Secret Santa.

Giac, it is cool and rainy here today. Perfect cuppa tea weather... say, have you ever tried hot cocoa with a tee-niny dash of cayenne pepper in it? Absolutely heavenly.

Prefer ye to drink from a colorful hefty mug, or a dainty teacup?

Hi Giac's Secret Santa! I think I know who you are, cayenne my word! Forget the fake accent above, I can hear you.

I think Giac is a "Mary" ~~~ too many of those Bloody Mary's around here!

Giok, on the other hand, is a fine gentleman from Scotland.

Indeed. How do we know that Giac and Giok aren't evil twins? ;-)

Fake accent? What fake accent? Some say I have an accent although it may not be the one you think, and it is not as overt as others who live in my part of the world.

Now, I must ask Giac another question. What sort of hot peppers is it you like to raise? When I used to have time for gardening, I had very good luck with several kinds. They grow well in my climate.

Dear Secret Santa: earlier, you asked:

Question is, do you believe in Santa?

Did my answer meet with your satisfaction? I hope so... I'm really not in this game for all the fancy (or unfancy, for that matter) prezzies, but I would like a little something, to keep me company through the long winter ahead... even just a note, or a PM.... So I don't feel quite so much like The Little Prince until the flowers bloom again...

I hope this doesn't make me sound pitiful, but it's been gray, and rainy and cold here for the last couple of days, and will be so for a couple of days more, according to the weather personaliities on the news, and I guess it's just seeping into my pores....

Hate to interrupt, Santas, but, uh, to answer MY SS's questions:

If you are a fan of Keeping Up Appearances, as am I, then you will understand when I say I am not unlike Hyacinth's neighbor, Elizabeth, when she is in Hyacinth's presence. I'd need a beaker, dearie, not the royal (whatever) with the hand-painted periwinkles.

As for peppers, this year I had great success with cayennes, jalapenos, and some smaller peppers of the chili type that were labeled only "from Thailand." And those, the locals here would note, were righteous-hot. For some reason, habeneros do not do well in my garden. Just as well, although they do make a good paint stripper.

Bloody Mary !!!! Evil Twin !!!! Indeed. MuwaaaaaHaaaaHA!

(It's a bloody mary morning, baby left me without warning ... [thanks, Willie])
