Subject: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Peter T. Date: 29 Oct 02 - 04:17 PM Thinking about "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (a very funny article in this week's New Yorker), I am reminded that there are some things that will never mend, that indicate in no uncertain terms that the universe is flawed. Like Sean Connery and Diana Rigg not being in the same Bond film together. I was wondering if there were other real (not fantasy) missed opportunities that people could recall, and that would have, but didn't, make the world a better place. A few more come to my mind: (1) I recall reading somewhere that some years ago Sinead O'Connor was going to make a movie of Joan of Arc. Whatever you think of her, she would have made a great Joan of Arc. (2) There is supposed to be somewhere a tape (never kept perhaps) of John Lennon and Bob Dylan working out a song together. Given that at the time they were writing similarly, a more substantial collaboration might have been worth it. (3) Speaking of which, Paul McCartney tells the story of he and John sitting watching Saturday Night Live together in New York and almost deciding to go down and play, but didn't. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Oct 02 - 04:43 PM Sean Connery and Diana Rigg together? Yowsa! I applaud your instincts, Peter. I always thought a Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan collaboration album would have been really neat. I would also like to see a ten minute WWF cage match between George Bush Jr and Chyna. It would be very one-sided, but amusing to watch, I'm sure. - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: katlaughing Date: 29 Oct 02 - 04:54 PM How about George C. Scott and Barbara Stanwyck? I really liked him, very much. Her, I could care less about, but it does seem they would be good together in a movie. (Have they ever been? I am not up on my nostalgia:-) Horowitz and Mozart would be kewl to see together. Is this a Bogie and Bacall kinda thread?:-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: khandu Date: 29 Oct 02 - 05:33 PM The planned, but aborted, 1992 Bob Dylan/William Shatner album would have aced them all. It is sad that it fell through, but egos got in the way. Shatner wanted it entitled, "Shatner and Dylan--Together at Last!" Dylan wanted to name it "It's a Strange World--Bob Dylan and William Shatner". Of course, no agreement was reached, and, alas, we are the losers! khandu |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Jacob B Date: 29 Oct 02 - 05:38 PM How about a Martin Mull and Mason Williams collaboration? Both songwriters with a strong sense of the absurd, both visual artists who had been strongly influenced by Dadaism. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 29 Oct 02 - 05:39 PM I've always thought that The Quiet Man would have been better with Robert Mitchum opposite Maureen O'Hara instead of John Wayne. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: MAG Date: 29 Oct 02 - 07:29 PM Oh, yes on that last one. Mitchum a MUCH better quiet man than da' Wayne. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Oct 02 - 07:54 PM The quiet man is Ian Duncan Smith |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Coyote Breath Date: 30 Oct 02 - 02:28 AM Connery and Rigg in a Bond flic? Yeah, it could work well. I'd like to see them do it now, like a Bond, aging, comes out of retirement. For reasons only a high priced shrink would be able to figure out (and due to the cost, I'll never get THAT session) I have had a thing for Dianna Rigg for ages, also Jamie Lee Curtis and Margot Kidder. Now THAT would have been a great Charlies' Angels cast! Agree McGofH, Mitchum would be much better than Wayne, especially for The Quiet Man. I would have liked to have attended a performance by John Hartford and Mike Seeger. CB |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Steve Parkes Date: 30 Oct 02 - 03:46 AM The Third Man? What a shame that Anthony Blunt (the fourth man) never made it to Moscow with Burgess, McClean and Philby. Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Mark Cohen Date: 30 Oct 02 - 04:03 AM CB, maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I know exactly how you feel about those three actresses. What about...Joan Hackett? You know, my secret Santa said he/she had a thing for Diana Rigg, too. Hmmm.... Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Jeanie Date: 30 Oct 02 - 05:02 AM Walther Matthau, Paul Merton and Robert Lindsay - three masters of superb, understated comic timing. I would cast them as the Weird Sisters of the blasted heath in my fantasy panto version of Macbeth. You think I'm joking. Walther Matthau would also make an outstanding Lady Bracknell. - jeanie |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: MAG Date: 30 Oct 02 - 10:03 AM You don't need any excuses to have a thing for Ms. Rigg - she was and is a knockout, in addition to being a gifted actress. I'd like to see her and Jody Foster together in a movie. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 31 Oct 02 - 04:16 AM Two memories of Diana Rigg from the seventies -- seeing her in a stage play with John Thaw (can't remember the title) in which she appeared naked, very briefly and in very low light, (but just the thought is enough!). The other is actually meeting her (with her clothes on) and being impressed by her friendliness and her height (and I'm 6' 1"). She's a big, bonny lass! BJ |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Steve-o Date: 31 Oct 02 - 01:10 PM "How about a Martin Mull and Mason Williams collaboration?" Brilliant, Jacob B, but you forgot to mention...BOTH are superb guitar players! Ever seen Martin Mull play that big blonde archtop? Two primo musicians. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Oct 02 - 04:00 PM Any male over 30 who doesn't have a thing for Diana Rigg has got to be completely dead at one end and at least half dead at the other! I bet even a lot of females have a thing for Diana Rigg. As for Robert Mitchum, he was a very good actor for moody parts. Anyone recall "Thunder Road"? A really odd actor, to my way of thinking, was Jimmy Stewart. He had such a strange voice. I was always puzzled about how he became a screen idol. Now Bogart...well, he was to male leads what Diana Rigg is to female leads...but in an earlier era. And Bogart and Bacall together was sheer dynamite. Anyone remember what's-her-name (Kathleen Turner?) in "Body Heat". Wow. Now that was film noire! - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: GUEST Date: 31 Oct 02 - 04:03 PM Walter Matthau WAS a joke, bad actor from the get go. |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Oct 02 - 08:35 PM I'd have to agree with that. I didn't care much for Frank Sinatra as an actor either. And then Elvis...well...only William Shatner (my hero!) could teach Elvis anything he didn't already know about BAAAAAAD acting! - LH |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: GUEST,mkebenn Date: 01 Nov 02 - 07:12 AM LH, I love Thunder Road, though I won't defend it's over all quality as a film. Mitchum was great, and I love the music. "Not tonight,Robin, trouble on the road" Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Steve-o Date: 01 Nov 02 - 11:52 AM Yowie...Kathleen Turner as "what's-her-name"??!!! Any list of women who have aged into amazing yumminess in all respects starts with Sophia Loren, moves on to Diana Rigg, and certainly includes Kathleen Turner! And how about that Raquel Welch, huh?? |

Subject: RE: BS: Sean Connery and Diana Rigg From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Nov 02 - 01:01 PM Jimmy Stewart may have had a "funny voice," but can you imagine anyone else in Rear Window? And Grace Kelly--if she had kept acting, she could hold a candle to Rigg. It has been years since I saw any of his movies, but Robert Donat was a great leading man, and I'd have loved to have seen him spend more time on this side of the pond. Too bad the only time I know of his acting with Ingrid Bergman was when he was in costume as an aged Chinese Mandarin. I've shown my kids Donat's The Thirty-nine Steps and they liked it okay, but the British actor they REALLY like is Cary Grant in Arsenic and Old Lace. The casting of that was a tour de force! One last thought--have Timothy Dalton and Rigg ever worked together? Might be a spectacular match-up. He's certainly a teflon actor, good reputation considering all of the bombs he has been in. Or did The Beautician and the Beast finally do him in? SRS |
