Subject: BS: Places to stay in Marietta, Georgia?

I'm planning a visit soon to my brother and his family who live in Marietta, GA. I need to stay in a hotel due to his 3 cats and my allergies. I'm wondering if any one familiar with this area could recommend a place? It could also be nearby; my brother mentioned a town called Kennesaw as well.

I'm looking for someplace that would be no more than $100 a night (less if possible) and is in a safe area and is a reasonably decent establishment. (Use your own standards there!) It would also be great if it was in a location where I could leave and walk around on my own to places if my relatives were busy at times. (I won't have the use of a car.) My brother is checking on his end too, but I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. Thanks!

P.S. This message is not anti-cat! It's my allergies that are the problems, not the cats, which I love!

does your brother or anyone else have one of those 1/2 price books...then it would cut the price even further...or check yours if you have one because often they are good in other cities.

Zhenya - I don't know anything specific about that area but you might check on the net to see if there are hotels near the Marta stations. Marta is the mass transit train system that could get you into the Atlanta area quickly if you're inclined to go there. Check some city of Atlanta websites and you're sure to find something. Wish I could help more.

My only other advice is to make sure you see the big chicken.

Hopefully an Atlanta member will check in here....we have a few. My wife and I got married on the square in Marietta. She grew up in the area......and I say area because if you haven't been to Atlanta, I can't really describe what you're up against here.

"Marietta" covers a large section of northwest Atlanta and in it you can find any motel/hotel chain existent. Price will not be a problem unless you insist on a Marriott or something. The real problem here is location. Where in Marietta? Kennesaw used to be a little town far outside the city limits but it has been swallowed up by the continual expansion. What is referred to as "Metroplex Atlanta" covers all or parts of 12 counties! Every exit on I-75 which comes in from the north and passes both Kennenesaw and Marietta has at least 6 or 7 motels and shopping areas as well.

I lived there in the early 80's and it was huge then...but now when I go down to visit Karen's family, it's completely unrecognizable! Her sister has lived there the whole time and the changes are less noticeable, but roads I remember as narrow two lanes are now 4 lane limited access! The place just continues to grow.........They now have an outerbelt outside of the outerbelt!!!

Talk to your family and ask them what would be close and suitable...In the case of Atlanta, it's really the best thing.

Spaw

I live 1 hour from Marietta, and for what you are seeking, I would recommend staying at the Town Center Mall area for a safe lots to do within walking distance. THere are lots of chain Motels at this exit (Barrett Parkway) Give me a little time and I will find names of pplaces and phone numbers. Also plerhaps a Band B near the swuare in Marietta. Marietta is a very nice southern downtown around the square with a lot of olf antebellum mansions and excellent resturants around the square. The Marta does not come to Marietta at all, so mass transit via subway is not an option but there is a bus system to get you to downtown Atlanta if you wish.   Kennesaw is just a freeway exit and all of the exits will have the obligatory chain motels that should be in the 49-89dollars pler night. Let me check some stuff and I will try to post again pm me if you want! Jim

Thanks for your suggestions! I have been down to Atlanta twice since my brother moved there, but the last time was number of years ago. At that time he had only one cat and boarded it out, so I stayed in his home, but still had some problems, alas. So although I've been there before, this is the first time I'm looking for lodgings. I could see it had grown even between my two visits, so I can believe it's even bigger now.

I didn't think to ask him about any ½ price or other discount books, but that's a great idea, and I'll check into it. Thanks, also for the transit advice. I will mostly get rides from my family, but may have some short times on my own, where I would probably want to walk around.

Jim, thanks for the specific information, and I'm sending you a PM. My brother did mention Town Center Mall so that might work out.

And I am now trying to remember if I did or didn't see the big chicken the last time I was there! (It sure sounds familiar. I should check my old photos...)

Thanks again all,
Zhenya
