Hey, who's drivin' this plane? How about a banner or something centrally located for the MudcatCD's? The threads are okay and provide all the info needed but I believe more would be able to easily access an advert with some pics placed on the Main page and the Lyrics and Knowledge pages. Max? Pene? Anybody able to do such a thing?

Yerz,
Madison Alley Tweed

Joe-
For Pro Bono type Mudcat announcements, a thread that stayed at the top (and possibly one that didn't accept unauthorized additions) might be the way to go.

Either that, like Dick suggests, or to the Support Mudcat page, BUT I think it would be better with a page all of its own with ordering and content info and, even, pictures of the cd covers, as Tweed asked about in the other thread. My two cents:-)

Joe,
I'd say the best thing would be to create a link to a seperate page with images of the set and songlists for each, along with the ordering and pricing info. Just like a regular advertisement. What dya think?

Well, that's all well and good, but Jeff and Max aren't available this weekend. There's a plan for setting up pages like that, but Jeff hasn't done the tech work. All I have access to this weekend is Mudcat News I'll have a go at linking to this thread. If that isn't right, we can change the ordering information in the first message.

Well, I posted something that shows up on the Home Page, www.mudcat.org
Trouble is, my link didn't work the first time, so I had to post a second message. And I don't remember how to edit the damn thing. If Jeri or one of the clones remembers the link that goes to the News edit page, please send it to me by personal message. I can't find the blankety-blank edit button.
Well, there's a correct banner/link on www.mudcat.org. I can't be sure what will show up on the Forum Menu page, since that rotates (but it seems to be working correctly - hey, maybe I did it right!!).
I'll work on it more later - gotta head to church to atone for all the sins the trolls have accused me of this week. [grin]

Tech work??? It's an html page. A chimpanzee of average ability could set it up in a couple of hours. It needs doing.

A good illustration of how much Max really cares about Mudcat I think.

Go on flame me, Max is God after all
Gee, I can't think of any way to respond to that except to say, "Oh, fuck off!!" Max and Jeff are enjoying the holiday and did not anticipate that this weekend, I might need to post an HTML page. I hadn't need to do it before, but we talked about doing it in the future. We didn't think we'd need it right away. Yes, you really are a certified asshole.

You are a first class jerk, ya know that? Someone's away for the weekend doing something in the real world and you make a case for paranoiac delusions out of it? If you yourself are as able as the chimp you cite, why don't you chime in with the volunteer labor to do it? Teamwork is God, after all.

Way ta go, Tweed. Unless there's a better suggestion, we should do that. Michael R can send you the final copy on the songlistings as they went to press and the cover artwork. No-one has pictures of the CDs themselves and I hope Dick is too swamped with orders to take the time -- but the cover artwork will serve, until someone gets a set who has a digital camera and can phtograph the disks themselves, if that is what you want.

I don't think that the CDs have only been available this weekend, do you?

Max has known for ages about this, yet this very simple, but important way of promoting all your hard work (for the benefit of Mudcat) appears to have so far eluded him.

But what the hell do I know?

Apologies for the nasty response, dear gal, but your cattiness raises my hackles badly sometimes. I dunno if that is the effect you intend or whether it is just a collision of personal styles.

Let me point out that you yourself have not stepped forward to aid in the promotional effort any more than Max has. Between the two of you, I would imagine his actions in support of the Cat show more care by far than your own.

Whyncha see if Tweed needs some help there? Or dream up some other positive means of helping the action along? I would love to hear about it if you do think something good up. Truly. May I assume you have placed your orders with Mr. Greenhaus?

Mick,
I'd put some sound clips up from my site but they take up a huge amount of room and I'm approaching my 100 meg limit. But you can check the playlists out from this link.
The Mudcat CD AdPage complements of TweedTower's Industries.;~)
Hey Kat! Forget about keeping that link under your hat. Amos already let it out;~) Still tuning it a little and should have something a little better, but at least you can see what they look like.
And as Amos sez....FLOOD DICK!!! Send piles of money and make this thing work.

Max or Pene, if I've done wrong by placing the Mudcat logo on that thing let me know. I would've asked permission but sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness. Anyhow, let me know if you'd rather I didn't use it.

Guest Mick:

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have the time or resources to put samples up, but if you want to approach it conservatively, you could order one CD and see how you liked it. Maybe Dick would let you apply it tothe package proce for the other four if you decided to follow through within a certain amoutnof time, or something. I would suggest Orchid if you want to start with one. That's just MHO. Or you could just choose based on the play lists at the web site linked above -:

A thought occurs:

What happens if a British non-mudcatter wants to order a CD? The web site says PM Bill\Sables, which doesn't mean anything to the uninitiated. I believe a GUEST can't send/receive a PM, and Bill's email and snail mail addresses don't seem to be published.

(this is in anticipation of posting a message to the newsgroup uk.music.folk, which would seem sensible thing to do but not until simple ordering instructions are available)

Of course I have Bill's address but he may not want it advertised outside the 'cat...

Yeah, that's a bit unclear. Usually, Dick handles credit card orders from anywhere, and the only problem is when somebody wants to send a cheque/check. The wording inmplies that all UK orders should go throeug Bill Sables, and I don't think that's the case. Can somebody check that with Amos or Dick and get a clarification?
Ordinarily, the number of cheques may be small, and there wouldn't be any need for provisions for those few non-Mudcatters who are unwilling to use credit cards.

I believe Bill was also managing bulk distribution rather than shipping individual orders across to UK, but that was set up between Dick and Bill. Anyone who wishes to order directly through CAMSCO may do so, I imagine -- if Dick wants route the deliveryt hrough Bill he can do so-- it's just that Dick doesn't want checks in quids. Most credit cards handle exchanges automatically in processing the charges.

Dick?

And another from the Credit-where-it's due Dept.:

The idea for the graphics came from LEJ, and it was thru his descriptions and feedback that I built the (virtual) set. It was his vision - I only supplied the tools, and sent the final rendering to michaelr.

Well, that is a pretty big "only" Homeless, and LEJ, forgive me for not mentioning your stellar contribution to the success of the projhect.

I am totally stoked that this is coming off at last!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in with ideas, songs, and so many other kinds of action to make it a reality!!

Hey Boberdz! Here's that banner you wanted;~)

The Mud Banner

If any of the rest of the websters out there want to swipe it and put it on your sites, please feel free to. I got it at the top of the Tweedboard even now.

Here's what Dick says about ordfering info:

It doesn't matter whether you order from CAMSCO or from Bill Sables. It's just that Bill can accept cheques in pounds and CAMSCO can't while CAMSCO takes credit cards and Bill doesn't.

The language should be modified to say

"UK residents wishing to pay using cheques in Sterling may do so by contacting Bill Sable by PM to bill\sables or email to bilsbls@aol.com. CAMSCO cannot process cheques in Sterling or other international currencies.

Do not send credit card orders to Bill, as he cannot process them.

Any order using credit card may be communicated directly to CAMSCO by phone, PM, email or letter."

OK... here's how it worked from OZ... so the UK should be the same...

Dick can take credit card orders... but NOT via a secure server... so you send your credit card details broekn down and split between a few emails..... and he'll sort it out from there...

What wasn't clear, and still isn't from your re-wording, is that (apparently) Dick Greenhaus is still mailing out all the CD's himself.

I sent Bill a cheque in sterling because I thought he was distributing the CD's for UK purchasers - but I've just had a PM from Bill to say the money has arrived and Dick will be sending me the CD's.

In that case all I needed to do was send my CC number to Dick in the first place.

Oh well - I'll go and post something to umf anyway.
Oh and I like the banner - I'll put in a link to that!

To all UK catters, Dick decided that it would be better for him to send the CD's directly to individuals because to send a batch to me might have incured import charges, VAT, etc. As stated above Dick will take credit cards but if you want to pay by cheque in £ sterling it would be easier to go throuhg me. either PM me or drop me an email at bilsbls@aol.com
Cheers Bill

And I 'm jealous of those who've got theirs already (in another thread...)

Remember -- you CAN have all these CDs in YOUR home, and they use LESS FUEL THAN A HONDA!!! They do not litter the living room, need diapers, smell up the Cat box or wake their owners up in the middle of the night.

Can't BEAT em!!! :>)
