Subject: Lyr Add: Fixin' to die Take Two From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Feb 03 - 05:16 PM Just got this in an email from a friend, and I thought I'd post it here: I FEEL LIKE I'M FIXIN' TO DIE RAG, TAKE TWO Well, come on, all of you big strong men Uncle Sam needs your help again. He's decided to attack Some guy with a mustache in Iraq. So put down your books and pick up a gun - We're gonna have a whole load of fun. [Chorus] And it's one, two, three, what are we fighting for? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn; We're gonna hit Saddam. And it's five, six, seven, open up them pearly gates. Well, there ain't no time to wonder why - Whoopee! We're all gonna die. Well, come on generals, let's move fast; Your big chance has come at last. Hear your President's injunction: Free the world from mass destruction. And you know that peace can only be won When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come. Well, come on Wall Street, don't move slow, This war's your chance to go-go-go. There's plenty of good money to be made By supplying the army with the tools of the trade. And pray, as the body-count grows higher, That it's not all from friendly fire. Well, come on mothers throughout the land And send your sons to fight Saddam. Come on fathers, don't hesitate, Send 'em off before it's too late. Be the first one on your block To have your boy come home in a box. Well, come on, Britain, join the fun - You're Decoy Airstrip Number One. Don't be cautious, don't hold back, Join us out there in Iraq. Remember how we supported you In '17 and '42! "If you like this, feel free to circulate it - I don't mind if you omit any attribution to me, as long as you don't pass it off as your own. And PLEASE always include that it is very closely based on "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag" by Country Joe McDonald (of Country Joe and the Fish, copyright © Tradition Music, BMI, 1965 renewed 1993 by Alkatraz Corner Music, BMI. -- Molly (Orchard Road Bonfire Society) Feb 2003" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Fixin' to die Take Two From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Feb 03 - 05:58 PM "Nearly a quarter of the US and allied casualties in the Gulf War were from friendly fire" (Christian Science Monitor, Jan 7th 2003) That's what came up when I typed "friendly fire" into Google. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Fixin' to die Take Two From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Feb 03 - 06:06 PM When I was doing crosslinks for this song, I came across the Country Joe McDonald Website. Joe still has a lot of good to say. I wonder how many Americans oppose George W. and his Iraq campaign. I didn't like the invasion of Afghanistan, but it made some sense. This one just doesn't have credible justification. Maybe Bush will get some "friendly fire"... Did I just violate the USA Patriot Act? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Fixin' to die Take Two From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 03 Feb 03 - 06:19 PM And in case anyone doesn't click on through that Country Joe site Joe Offer gave there, here is this picture of where we all live As Country Joe puts it: "As you are thinking about the Columbia astronauts and the meaning of their sacrifice, you might want to look at this incredible view of the lights of Earth at night which they and their compatriots helped bring us." It takes a little bit of time to dowload, but it's worth the wait. (I think that's probabaly a typo for "companions".) |
