I always was led to believe that "wild Mountain Time" was just an adaptation of the song "Braes of Balquidder" but I once heard a radio programme featuring the MacPeake family where they took credit for writing "W.m.t." as an original song. After listening to both versions/songs, I was convinced that there was,if not copying, a severe amount of subliminal influence going on. |

From: mouldy Date: 11 Feb 03 - 02:59 AM I haven't seen the ad for a week or two, but I thought the "Wild Mountain Thyme" ad was a year or so back. I'm sure the one I've seen this season has some other, very evocative, tune on it. Andrea |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: whats the tune on the 'Scotland' advert? From: Brian Hoskin Date: 11 Feb 03 - 08:33 AM On the website commercial breaks and beats, where they list music used on UK commercials, the most recent music they list for a Scottish Tourist Board advert is 'Happiness' by the band Blue Nile. However, the date they give for this is 1999 and they don't indicate (and I wouldn't know) whether they are still using this music in their ongoing campaign. Brian |

From: Strupag Date: 11 Feb 03 - 10:53 AM Well guys, I've looked up the "visitscotland" website and it has no info about their current ad. I have posted a query on their site asking for info so watch this space. I haven't seen the ad but that's probably because I'm in Scotland. We just see great ads asking us to visit Ireland! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: whats the tune on the 'Scotland' advert? From: Strupag Date: 13 Feb 03 - 07:51 AM Hi guys, I'm back. The Scottish Tourist Board(Visitscotland.com) came back to me so here is the reply that I have received. Dear Andy Thank you for your enquiry, The music is by Paul Mounsey and is untitled and not for release as yet, more info on the atrist can be aceesed at www.nahoo.org Regards Davie As I have said, I have never seen the ad. but as for Paul Mounsey, I have his first three CD's Nahoo 1, 2 and 3. He is one of the most exciting things to come out of Scotland in a long time. His first album was mostly sampling odd bits of gaelic and maybe a bit of Runrig with a lot of musical input by himself. Now an old traditionalist like myself took quite a wee time getting used to this but his work is a superb art form and by his third album, I love everthing that he does. (I suppose it's like what it was when sythesizers were first used by folk bands). Paul lived in the Easter Ross-Shire town of Alness and now lives somewhere in South America and aparantly is big in film music. I can only recommend that you try and get a listen to his stuff. The "Don Roberto" track on Nahoo 3 stands out as a personal favourite. |
