Kitty Vernon sings it, or at least, she used to.

I first saw it in a Punch annual (Pick of Punch) from the early 1950s. I’ll look for it.

I know the Rod Derrett song but I heard it well before 1960 at a Youth Club concert organised by my father, and with different words. Unless he wrote it himself, which is possible as he co-wrote a panto every year, he clearly got it from somewhere but nobody can tell me where. Good luck!

There was a poem called "Goldilocks and the Three Teddyboys" written by Dubliner Luke Cheevers some years ago (late 1990s). Might that be it?

Didn't Fred Wedlock sing it??? (Probably claimed to have written it too, or at best, not credited it's authorship).

The only part of it I remember is: "Don't bother to wash, it's sure to rain, but bring your cosh and bicycle chain". I don't recall hearing it sung, but I think it was printed in "The Eagle" comic.

Thank you all, The rest I can remember.

The song was very derogatory to Teddy Boys, who were smarter in clobber than the average teen, even the law were jealous of our clothes.

Hence the bad name given unfairly.

But the song was brilliant.

The suits etc cost on average more than my old man earned in a week.

Thankyou once again.

Ex Teddy Boy with the same haircut and DA

the strangest thing, I was waiting for a meeting and decided to browse a Sanity store. They have 3 set compilations of music that never gets anywhere else. There was one called "Great Oz Rock". I hesitated, then decided to see who they included, and it was Jimmy and the Boys, and TBs Picnic wass there, and....

It's not the song!!!! (It actually sounds a bit Adam and the Antsish - similar story - but not it!!!)

And so I continue the search.

If you go down in the woods today
You'd better go in disguise
In drainpipe trews and high coloured shoes
And something intense in ties
No need to wash its going to rain
Just take your cosh and your bicycle chain
Todays the day the teddy boys have their picnic

Jimmy etc seem to be an off-the-wall Oz group. There is a MIDI file in the Google results but the usual tune only. Can't see any words anywhere.

You'd better go in disguise
With stovepipe trews and fancy shoes
And something intense in ties.

I've just checked the 4-CD Celebration of Sellars set: it isn't on there. But it does sound like him.

This would almost be folk music now!!

There is a parody song of The Teddybear's Picnic called The Teddyboy's Picnic.

Some possible lyrics are:

No need to wash, it looks like rain
So bring your cosh and bicycle chain
Today's the day the Teddyboy's have their picnic

It is possible that Peter Sellers wrote or sang it, but I can find no reference anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas or indeed the full lyrics?

Regards

BB
