Subject: source req: Wild Mtn. Thyme From: broekejd@westminster.edu Date: 22 Jan 97 - 10:26 AM I'm looking for background information and printed sources for "Wild Mountain Thyme" (Braes O' Balquiddher). DT indicates it's composed by Francis McPeake. Where should I begin? |

Thyme From: Martin Ryan Date: 22 Jan 97 - 02:57 PM One of the many Francie McPeakes claimed authorship when his family group recorded Wild Mountain Thyme in the '60s. It is based on the Braes of whatever - of which I'll try to list some printed sources if I get a chance Best wishes |

Thyme From: Bill Day Date: 22 Jan 97 - 06:29 PM I have 'Braes of Balquiddher' in "Songs of Scotland" edited by George Farquhar Graham in about 1850 ot so...he says it was written by Robet Tannahill, 'a Paisley weaver' 1744-1810...it gives a 'short' bio of Tannahill which claims that he was a well-to-do but morose person who committed suicide. |
