They're close but I'm listening to the "Ag Pleez Deddy" CD which is live and they don't quite fit witht he way Jeremy plays it. I've emailed Jeremy direct but I don't know if a) he will responsed in time (I want to learn this by Tuesday) or b) if he will respond in a positive manner ( although I suspect he will be delighted to assist if it means winding up the music police at Barton)

The Deanmeister sings this one - why not PM him with a request for the chords

Raggytash,

In which key do do want to sing it? Let me know and I'll jot it out for you - I was involved with a recording of this song many years ago but still remember it well.

I capo up the neck to 3rd- 5th fret and use these

C I was just an G ordinary C Eng G lishman
C Til I gotme A uniform an D7'at
G7 Now ever since that hour I C exercise me A power
D7 preventing you from doing this an G that
G7 You'll see me at theturnstile at the C zoo Am
A or outside the roxy marshalling the D7 queue
G And if you turn up B7 late when C I'm onthe G gate
its no good asking me to let you D7 thru

Ill just say

G Jobswot Job'th its more than me C jo'wth
A I dont care rain or snow ..answers D no
G I can.... C queue
and if u dont G like it u no wot D u cn G do

then back to the C chord and run down the scale notes from C to G

OBM,
If you can let me have the chord sequence I can transpose it into a key I can sing (Thank you for Capo's) It's the little nuances that I,m after like the B7 that Breezy has put in, although, having listened to the CD once again, I think Jeremy puts a few more in.
Thanks for your considerations

Raggytash,

It seems that breezy beat me to it, and has put down more or less what I would have suggested. I have one or two suggestions though - you might like to try the following:

C/G/CGC/
C/A/Dmin///
G///C/A/
D7///G///
G///C///
A7///D///
G/Bmin/C/G/
G/A7/D///

G/C/G/C/
A///A/D/
G/C/G/C/
C/G/GDG/

It's a great lyric - it's been fun to re-read. Hope this helps!

I have always believed that Jeremy actually invented the expression "Jobsworth" with this song. Does anyone know if it did exist earlier ?

I can remember the word being used back in the late sixties, about a year or so before I heard Jeremy Taylor's (then) new song.

Jeremy Taylor very kindly took the time to rspond to an email I sent him asking for the chords, thus straight from the horse's mouth as it were
F/C7/F.C7.F    I was just an ordinary Engishman
F/D7/G7/G7/
C7/C7/F/F
G7/G7/C7/C7/
C7/C7/F/F/
D7/D7/G7/G7/
C/E/Am/C/
D7/D7/G7/G7/

C/C/C7/F/               Jobsworth, Jobsworth
D7/D7/D7/G7/
C/C/C7/F/
F/Fm/C/G7/C7/F

He also sent us Good Luck and said we should give them (the PEL people hell) What a kind gesture

I'm with Dave Bryant on this. I first heard the song (Taylor singing it) around 1968 and the first separate references I heard to "jobsworths" were subsequent to that and were derived from the song. I'd be interested to see the evidence before accepting any claims to the contrary.

Dear Jeremy,
I hope that all is well with you! I have often thought about you. I dont know if you will remember me. I really enjoyed coming to and performing Jobsworth with you!
Unfortunately all of my signed albums were stolen many years ago, so i do not have a copy now.
A friend of mine is about to get married and is about to become Mrs Harris. I would really appreciate the lyrics to your song as i think it would be great to use some quotes at the wedding.
I hope to hear from you in the near future, and hope that you are well and happy whereever you may be.
Take care, with love from Stephanie.
xxxx

Stephanie, I don't think Jeremy looks in on Mudcat. Is it the lyrics to Jobsworth that you want for quotes at a wedding (!)?
