Subject: RoseThe Record Lady needs help! From: GUEST,pyewacket Date: 01 Apr 03 - 05:28 PM The Record Lady's website is perhaps the most comprehensive collection of Bluegrass and older CountryWestern music to be found anywhere. Her extended library of songs from the 20's to the 70's is indeed a treasure trove that resurrects memories for many of us. Rose, the benefactor, has over 4000 hits a week but is experiencing financial difficulty maintaining the site because only the same few steadfast and loyal followers are making the donations required to keep it afloat. This lady goes to great lengths to provide the music and assistance necessary to keep things running smoothly. If you haven't visited, please do and enjoy but above all else please make a contribution to help sustain and support this wonderfully unique resource while there is still time! Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: GUEST,recldy@pdq.net Date: 02 Apr 03 - 09:38 PM YES, the "Record Lady" needs help to keep her site online...it's been that way since October of 2001...thanks to a very FEW of my listeners (who have cared enough to help out), folks like "gargoyle" have been able to download every one of the close to 5000 songs that are now on my site...but what folks like "gargoyle" don't realize is that the songs on my site are NOT EVEN THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG in what I am capable of providing...and NO, "gargoyle" I am "NOT GOING DOWN FOR THE THIRD TIME"...(Has "gargoyle" ever contributed to the cost of my site?...I doubt it.) Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: GUEST,GUEST Date: 02 Apr 03 - 11:00 PM Max should have a place for you on the MC server. He's got the bucks and you've got the time. Most of the donating people here already give to Max. |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 02 Apr 03 - 11:09 PM Hummmm...pyewicket comes out of no-where soliciting donations for an obscure site.
G speaks the truth of the new digital age. RecordLady suddenly appears to defend her rose-hued-honor.
A no-name troll pops up to fan the spark into a conflagration.
Sincerely,
Will it burn or will it smolder????only the contributions of RickKatJoePawPunch can tell...who does play ring-around-the-rosey? |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: GUEST Date: 02 Apr 03 - 11:11 PM The mudcat should start to charge advertising space to greedy self promoters seeking a handout and a freeride. |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: Neighmond Date: 02 Apr 03 - 11:40 PM Bosh to the "guest" and Gargoyle! She is providing a worthy service, and certian of our peers would do well to remember that she does it of her own good will. I shall see what remains after the reckoning and contribute accordingly. Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: Bill D Date: 03 Apr 03 - 10:32 AM "advertising space"?? give me a break!....Rose provided all this TOTALLY free for several years when the internet boom provided free web space. She simply cannot afford hundreds of dollars a month for several gigabytes of space. As for Max, he is in the same basic situation.....he provides a service which was once supported by his business, and now relies on some donations to keep the database and 6+ years of postings alive. It is a fact that if even 20% of the people who use Mudcat or Rose's site gave just a few dollars a year, there would be no problem keeping them going. Neither Rose nor Max profit from any of this...they just feel that what they do is worth it. If not enough others feel that way, it will all eventually go away...that simple. (gargoyle's posts are at least sort of honest...he feels that "once I got mine, who cares what happens"....but his implication that pyewacket and Rose and 'guest' are somehow in collusion is silly BS!) |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: pattyClink Date: 03 Apr 03 - 04:40 PM Cool link, pye, thanks, and sorry for the rude reception. But I do think the source of funds ought to be all those country artists who are FOREVER mewing about how they love and respect and adore all the wonderful Opry members and pioneers who went before. Where are they now? |

Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: open mike Date: 18 Sep 06 - 09:06 PM the way back machine is here: http://www.archive.org/index.php but the site it finds is http://recordlady.com/ which is selling magnets (huh?) this is not the site but she isan interesting person: "I named the site after a Lyle Lovett song that I used to play when I was at KPFT in Houston, TX." well when i entered the entire URL for the record lady WEB i get this message..Blocked Site Error. oh well, i tried. |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: Bill D Date: 18 Sep 06 - 09:11 PM nope..wayback has nothing. There is precious little info about her now...only old links and comments in forums. What I remember is that she moved, then decided to move BACK, and had a car/trailer accident that damaged a lot of her collection, then had her right to post the music challenged in court, then just gave up fighting the bureaucracy. Sneaky old me downloaded most of what she had 3-4 years ago, as did many others...or maybe it was 5 years. Anyway, her legacy lives on. |
Subject: RE: Rose The Record Lady needs help! From: Gene Date: 18 Sep 06 - 09:50 PM Rose's site is now basically a bulletin board operation with lyrics and audio files by request. Rose "Has left the building" but various visitors to the site thru the years have downloaded much of the contents which are available upon request. http://b5.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?&user=recldy&user2=record&pass2=lady& |
