I've been asked by a fellow catter to express her thanks to Joe Offer and the catters in general for help in support in a difficult matter recently. It sort of highlights the problems if someone posts you something nasty direct to you as happened in this case. The catter concerned was so upset she phoned me at home, I gave her a shoulder to cry on ( as a lot of people know they are big enuff to cope)and some advice. I think it brings to mind that we are a franternal society and I for one would boot out anybody who makes vicious and nasty attacks.
Live long and prosper.

It always amazes me when someone is nasty on a leisure and info forum. Why the hell anything should get that personal and heated heaven knows. The lady in question's got a lot of people on her side though and that should make her feel better.

I remember going to a dinner party once where a bloke launched the most ghastly personal attack on me and my partner. It led on from the subject of music and his partner and the people at the party were very distressed but just couldn't shut him up. I am afraid I got very weak and wobbly because that sort of thing hasn't happened to me since schooldays and I didn't know how to cope. But the plus side is that we made some very loyal friends that night....

I think one of the cowardly reasons for attacking in this way is that the person doing the attacking doesn't have to face up to it. As you say why people chose to use a leisure forum for vitriol just is comtemptable and again you are right in saying, as I said to this catter, you have got real friends here and on the folk scene.

Some people simply have no other life, no other interests that vitriol and being generally disagreeable. I think that it's the only way they feel that they can be noticed or make some mark in the world. Sad sods, in my opinion. Given a chance they'd probably go into politics.

I'm so glad this has never happened to me - I have come here for comfort in need, and always found it. I try to rally to support when I feel needed... so far so good!

I don't know about the problem of the lass in question, but she has my undiluted support. For the most part Mudcat is a place of wit and wisdom, sensitivity and support. It's easy to tell someone who is the butt of nasty and unprovoked attacks to pay no mind, but such attacks are painful and troubling. Thanks to all who lent support.

Something happened to me, once, also ... similar in some ways... or perhaps it wouldn't seem so to those who...well, you know... anyway, comparable, and so you can understand how I felt and I was very glad it got sorted out through the kindly offices of wise and compassionate people who shall remain nameless. ... It just goes to show you, doesn't it?
