My three daughters and two grandchildren just dragged me to see FINDING NEMO. Whenever someone says "You gotta see, read, hear this" my Taurus genes kick in and the heels dig in. Why would I want to see an animated children's movie? Well, they ganged up on me, and, in a weak moment, I caved in and went with them.
This movie is absolutely delightful! It's way too noisy, but, the humor is way above the heads of children. Much funnier than Mighty Wind. Take a kid to this one.

It looks like great fun from the trailers I saw.

Yesterday I watched "Ice Age" which is also a hoot. Recommended!

Carol made me go and I loved it. Only fell asleep once; snored and she woke me. Anyone with MS who has accentuated short-term memory loss etc. will simply love that blue fish. Can't remember her name. I loved her. And I don't even LIKE fish. (Ebert gave it FOUR stars.) ****

Just saw it and couldn't agree more.

You guys without young kids are really missing out!!! Really, you need to check out all of these "Kids" animated things as they are just great!!!! If you haven't seen "Lion King" you need to check it out too. "Ice Age" is a riot and the "Alladin" movies with Robin Williams as the genie are wonderful. Yep, a lot of the humor is way above the kids but the messages are not, nor are they not worthwhile for us old farts to be reminded of as well. Try "Shrek" for some more great laughs too.

If you don't have a kid, borrow someone else's. We saw it Saturday, and I thought it was a delight. Sharks in a 12 step program "Fish are friends, not food"; an octopus that leaks when frightened (oops); bad, bad jokes and puns; the above mentioned blue "Dorrie"; the seagulls whose cries are all transformed into "Mine! Mine!Mine!"; surfing dude sea turtles riding the EAC (East Australia Current); the overprotective father....
Only thing is, I dunno about taking a little kid to see it. The drop off and the sharks and that nastyfish that glowed in the dark were DAMN scary. (Not to mention the dentist) and the little girl next to us spent a good chunk of the show with her blanket over her head.
And then the trailer for "The Incredibles". I laughed so hard I like to died... did you all catch that too? Retired superhero recieves call, attempts to redon costume and fasten belt...

I am really looking forward to seeing Finding Nemo, due to a lack of smaller People around our House Ill have to wait for the Video release!
I really enjoy Movies for Younger Folks. Lots of laughs for bigger people in them:>)
'Shrek' is a hoot as is 'Monsters Inc' and 'Ice Age'.
Keeps me young at heart and they always manage to get a tear from my eye!

I saw this with grownups because X had taken the twins... what a howl! But I missed the trailer, will have to see again, on time, this time. Tried to talk my Mom into seeing but saw King of Hearts instead, talk about hilarity with dramatic overtones!

Most of the animated films in the last 10 years have been absolutely great. Some I would also mention: Mulan, Toy Story, Pocahontas, Lilo and Stitch, and those two that were about ants and various other bugs.

Anybody who ignores these movies cos they're "for kids" is either lacking in imagination or just plain missing out on a good thing.

I must also recommend two recent Disney animations which did not get very good promotion: Atlantis and Treasure Planet. Both should appeal to adults very much! And, it's not Disney or Pixar, but Spirited Away is a must-see...

I loved Finding Nemo; there were some rather poignant moments amid the hilarity, I thought...as when the whales (who are translated by Dorrie, whose memory skills do extend to knowing how to speak whale language) tell Nemo and his dad to "let go, everything will be all right" and this seems to me to be a a commentary on death and dying as much as on taking risks...I thought this a very profound use of the whales, a wise and dying species, for this story.
I was surprised, with so many moments focusing on different species' specific characteristics, there was nothing about dolphins...or did I miss something?

My wife is interested in taking our 2.5 year old boy but I'm worried that it would be a little to scary for him. Is that what I'm hearing ?

That would probably depend on the kid. My younger sisters and brother LOVED scenes in the Wizard of Oz that frightened me, (okay - I was a fraidy cat!) and over the years I've noticed that scenes which many adults *think* will frighten kids are adored by them!

Two and a half might be a bit young for this one; thought he may like all the colorful fish...but the humor and part of the storyline are fairly mature. I'd say 6 or 7 minimum...
