Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 Jul 03 - 11:10 AM If you go up to Lyric and Knowledge Search.... Enter Wedding as the word to search for, you will find at least 4 or 5 different threads where others have hashed and re-hashed this question. Going through them will probably give you a good idea on two or three songs/tunes for sure. There were literally dozens of suggestions in those threads.
I'm sure a JoeClone will pop in and link this thread to some group of them. |

Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 10 Jul 03 - 11:45 AM Hmmm. Not sure what you mean by Power Search. Up at the top of this page, if you look on the left side, it has "Lyric and Knowledge Searc", Putting the word(s) you want to search for there, it would search through both the DT (Digital Tradition Database) as well as the Forum (Message Base) which gives you total coverage, in all the Mudcat's resource files |

Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: LadyJean Date: 11 Jul 03 - 12:10 AM I suppose "Maids When You're Young Never Wed an Old Man", is right out! If I was the marrying kind, I'd want the "Eriskay Love Lilt" at my wedding. |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: LadyJean Date: 11 Jul 03 - 12:13 AM My friend Morgan Wolfsinger has a song that certainly has a Scottish motif. It begins, "See the bridegroom, he used to herd sheep." She sings it in Latin, so the guests won't take offense. Check out her web site. It's pretty impressive. |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: Strupag Date: 11 Jul 03 - 07:47 AM Try getting a hold of Blair Douglas's album "Summer in Skye" it has a load of new tunes that could be adapted. Although they are new they all have a essential Scottish feal about them. For the essential Scottish love song you could do Peter Nardini's "Ah Think Yer Great!" |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: GUEST,Mikey joe Date: 11 Jul 03 - 08:23 AM I don't know that Peter NArdini song. do you have the lyrics tune for it??? thanx Mj |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: PeteBoom Date: 11 Jul 03 - 08:38 AM Hire a piper to play Murdo's Wedding (4/4 march) for the service. Or what we played for my sister's wedding - little 6/8 march, Cock O' the North - the bride and groom had a chuckle, noone else caught on. There also Jimmy Troy's Wedding (jig) and Rocking the Cradle (jig). Or, make a comment if appropriate and switch the two jigs. ;-) Pete |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Jul 03 - 09:14 AM "Marie's Wedding" is a must, "Haste to the Wedding" (OK it's Irish - but will anyone know ?) is a great tune. |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: smallpiper Date: 11 Jul 03 - 03:02 PM Ok when I play (highland pipes) at weddings I pipe the bride in with the Brown Haired Maiden I pipe the couple out with When the Battle is Over and the couple into the reception with Cock of the North. I occasionaly throw in Marie's wedding and one or two rigs and jeels to speed up proceedings when I'm getting bored or the F**+ing photographer is taking too long! |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: LadyJean Date: 12 Jul 03 - 01:18 AM Just so you don't play "Amazing Grace". The first time I heard it, it was a bagpiper's joke. He followed with "I'm a Little Teapot". They play it at my church every fall for Scottish Reformation Sunday, and the @#$%^&! band plays off key! |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: motherwell Date: 12 Jul 03 - 11:23 PM Try the internet at "Bagpipes Best" Denis Curran |
Subject: RE: Scottish music for a wedding From: Naemanson Date: 13 Jul 03 - 10:08 PM We need Julia to see this thread. She and her partner play Scottish Music for weddings. She'd be able to list them off for you for most of an afternoon. And an afternoon in their house is a very pleasant way to spend time. Try sending a PM to Julia. |
