Subject: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: Amos Date: 22 Jul 03 - 11:14 AM Maybe its funny, and then again, maybe it ain't so funny. Some notes on recent hijinks on the Hill: --- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A13376-2003Jul18.html?nav=hptop_tb Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) introduced a resolution protesting the GOP's behavior, triggering an afternoon-long debate in which each side accused the other of debasing Congress. Democrats charged that Republicans were running "a police state," with Pelosi saying her colleagues had suffered "an indignity no member should be expected to endure." Republicans recounted indignities of their own: When Rep. Scott McInnis (R-Colo.) had told Stark to "shut up" during the committee meeting, Stark denounced him as "a little wimp. Come on, come over here and make me, I dare you. . . . You little fruitcake. You little fruitcake. I said you are a fruitcake." ... |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST Date: 22 Jul 03 - 12:15 PM I know it is hard not to be cynical about this. But it does demonstrate just how off base the Republicans really are, doesn't it? The arrogance of their power is a stench no good citizen can abide, but if people don't write to the media outlets to complain that these authoritarian instincts (and the histrionics like these that stemp from them) of the Republicans are destroying our democracy, we will get exactly what we deserve from our tax dollars. |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: Bobert Date: 22 Jul 03 - 12:51 PM Well, GUEST, I wouldn't lay all the blame at the feet of the Republicans since most of the Dems have gotten whiplash in their rush to the right. I didn't hear too much disent from them when they signed off war powers to the executive branch or civil liberties that were signed off to the judical branch. So if we get a police state, and apparently all the ground work has been laid for that to occur, there are a lot of Dems to point fingures at as well as all of the others in the rival fraternity.... Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST Date: 22 Jul 03 - 12:58 PM Right Bobert, but to the best of my knowledge, no Democrats have summoned the Capitol police to arrest the Republicans who make ad hominem attacks against them. While there is little difference on the ground between the ways the Democrats operate and the Republicans, there are still philosophical and tactical differences between the two parties. This is an example of such differences. |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST,pdq Date: 22 Jul 03 - 01:51 PM Amos: About one dozen Calif state Dems were cought on tape (audio and vidio) in a conference room planning to extend and worsen the current budget disaster so it can all be blamed on the Republicans. The sixth largest economy in the world is in the hands of punks, thugs and assholes, under the banner of Democrat. |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST Date: 22 Jul 03 - 01:58 PM "The sixth largest economy in the world is in the hands of punks, thugs and assholes, under the banner of Democrat." No, that isn't accurate. The sixth largest economy in the world is under the control of the United States government and it's Anglo American corporate elite. That economy is currently being administered by the Republican Bush administration, was previously administered by the Democratic Clinton administration, all of whom are a bunch of punks, thugs, and assholes (along with their corporate elite). |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST,pdq Date: 22 Jul 03 - 05:35 PM Probably spiked, as most news stories that put the powerful in a bad light. Trying to be polite. For 1:58 : The Calif state budget is not the economy of the State of California, unless Gray Davis has more power than we think. Keep an eye on this story, as well as the Nevada State Supreme Court voiding a part of Nevada's Constitution at will. No reason except a demand from the AFT. Both stories should send chills down the spine of truthful people, Right or Left! |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: Midchuck Date: 22 Jul 03 - 05:42 PM Don't blame us! Vermont has only one member in the House, and he's neither Democrat nor Republican. Neener, neener, neener. Peter. |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: NicoleC Date: 22 Jul 03 - 06:16 PM The Calif state budget is not the economy of the State of California, unless Gray Davis has more power than we think. The California state budget is not approved by Davis, it's approved by the legislative body, a fact which the legislative branch conveniently forgets when it starts slinging mud. If there's blame to be assigned, it's gotta darken a lot more doors than Davis'. |

Subject: RE: BS: Our Glorious Representatives From: GUEST,pdq Date: 22 Jul 03 - 07:31 PM Yes, absolutely, agreement (to some extent) has been reached. However, aren't we ignoring the cold blooded intent shown by the 12 (or so) Dems to sabotage the government for political gains? These few dozen people already control a 134 Billion dollar budget. What more do we have to give them? |
