Yet another of my quizzes. Some questions are decidedly Anglo-centric, whilst other have a US bias.
As usual, please avoid answering questions in the thread. I will respond to PMs, and all answers will be posted in about 4 days.
The title of the quiz should be sufficient to start you off.

And Yes, I realise I used "Anglo centric" to cover Wales, it is more recognisable!

Candyman:
O.k. you've started the ball rolling, but please note the request to keep answers out of the thread. This allows people to attempt it without seeing others responses.
It's the first time I've seen you at these quizzes, so 'No Problem'!

O.k. we've agreed that the connection is names which are 'John', or variations on 'John'. Can we please now keep answers to PMs until everyone gets a chance to read the questions?

Thanks

Nigel

(I'll bet this bunch goes up and touches stuff with "wet paint" signs, too!)

I could never win, as I have no idea what "capping a fly-half" is about...and only barely comprehend 'striker'

I do know #14 though

I know a third of these - but didn't even understnad the questions for a second third - and totally lost on the third third. That makes seven thirds - so I figure I got 233% on the quiz.

MMario, I actually knew the answers to about half of them. For the rest, Google doesn't need to understand questions. Google only needs to recognize words! Waiting to hear from Nigel. I got 20 right the first time, but I think I've come up with the rest.

Haven't heard back on the 5 answers I sent today, but I think I got 'em and I'll find out soon enough.

I think being capped is some sort of award. Think of the sports/rude songs connection. Maybe.

If the question had been about a baseball player called John, it would have been us rightsiders who were clueless:

Fly Half - rugby player, wearing #10 on his shirt, a vital link between offense and defence
Capped - represented his country in an international match, mostly against England Ireland Scotland France Australia New Zealand South Africa but possibly also Italy Rumania Canada Japan Fiji Western Samoa Tonga or even USA

MichaelR: a 'fly-half' is a position in the game of Rugby (compare with the first person to take the ball from a scrimmage in US football) a player is 'capped' (given a national cap) for playing for his own country in an international match.
Hence the question is about someone who played for Wales (to the west of England, and a separate country!) 25 times in the same position, within the stated dates.
A google search using " caps 25 Wales & fly half" will get the answer

Nigel
