Hi all,

There's a song I keep partially remembering that I heard several years ago. Called Nip It In The Bud. It's a tribute of sorts to Barney Fife.

The chorus goes something like:

I've got to nip it, nip it, nip it in the bud.
Nip it, nip it, nip it in the bud.
I think I need to get a life and say good by to Barney Fife and
Nip it, nip it, nip it in the bud.

I have found that it was by "Comedians Rooster (Todd Yahn) and Roadrunner." Or at least that is what the John Boy and Billy Show website says (that's where I've heard it). And that's all the site says.

I haven't been able to find anymore info than that. Any help? Especially lyrics?

That's not exactly the song I was looking for. The song I'm looking for is a nostalgic and humorous paen to the comic genius of Don Knott's classic character Barney Fife.

Lyrics I know are the chorus (above)

And another part is:

Oh, my Barney, oh, my Barney, had a jail and couldn't lock it.
Had one bullet for his pistol, had to keep it in his pocket.

Now that appears to be another song - sung to the tune of Clementine, but it also appears in the "Nip It In The Bud" and actually continues with a part that is:

"His left front pocket.
Episope 125 (or whatever #) His right front pocket.
All other episodes - His left front pocket."

The refference is that he appeared to keep his bullet in a different pocket in only one of the episodes that shows the bullet in the pocket gag.

I know this is espteric, but I can't believe that the lyrics aren't out there.

Yeah, the last two lines are used in the song, but not all of it. The song actually changes a few times it's not a verse - chorus - verse - chorus song.

I'm refreshing this because I still can't find the lyrics.

The song might mbe called the Barney Fife Boogie, but I don't know for sure.

The John Boy and Billy show have not responded to my email. I rarely listen to the show anymore (for a few years) so I don't know if they ever play the song anymore.

Anyone gets me the lyrics, I'll buy them a Mudcat T-shirt.

Amazon.com lists an album called "Brains, Beauty, and Bob" by "Bob & Sheri," which contains a cut called "ROOSTER & ROADRUNNER. NIP IT." I have listened to a sound sample, and it confirms that it's the same recording that's on YouTube.
