Subject: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Arnie Date: 17 Aug 03 - 03:54 PM Logged on to Mudcat today and found that all text is twice the usual size! This might be useful if I was short-sighted but as I am not, I would like to get it back to normal size. Has this happened to everyone or just me? Anyone know how I can get back to normal-size text?? Any help appreciated. |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Rapparee Date: 17 Aug 03 - 03:58 PM Check your display settings. Also, you may have somehow kicked on the "Accessibility" features. This is assuming that you are using Windoze. |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Arnie Date: 17 Aug 03 - 04:06 PM Good thinking Sorcha - unfortunately my AOL toolbox only has File Edit Window Sign Off Help - there's no View. This text size problem is only on Mudcat and not on other programs on my computer (such as Word, Excel etc..) |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Amos Date: 17 Aug 03 - 04:12 PM It is the browser application setting, most likely. What browser are you using? A |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Bill D Date: 17 Aug 03 - 04:37 PM I guess he's using whatever browser is embedded in AOL...*shudder* |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Bill D Date: 17 Aug 03 - 04:42 PM the thing is, ALL display preferences 'should' be available from withing whatever browser system you use ..... somewhere at the top there should be a way to access this.. *begin moral lecture* You MUST spend time becoming familar with the menus and features of your tools, as things always happen that need to be tweaked.*end moral lecture* |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: GUEST,Paul D Date: 18 Aug 03 - 12:26 AM By looking at the source code for Mudcat's web pages, it doesn't appear that the text size it set by the HTML code. If that's true, then the text size you see is controlled by your browser's default setting. Do you see giant-sized text every time you go to Mudcat, or did this happen only once? If it's happened only once, it could have been caused by a loading problem - maybe the page got mangled by line noise while it downloaded. Or, if it happened only once, maybe the text size got set too big by the site you visited before Mudcat. If it happens every time, then I'm sorry, but I don't know what might be causing it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Aug 03 - 06:25 PM It was stated that the text is okay in "other programs," but not whether it's the same at other sites using the same browser. One would suspect that it would be "double sized" for all sites visited. Browser settings should not affect any other programs. Accidental activation of "Accessibility" functions would affect (nearly) all programs, so that can be ruled out. Since the only buttons on the browser are "File Edit Window SignOff Help," it might be worthwhile to click each one of them and see what is offered as "next steps." My guess would be that "Window" should give you some display options, since there's no Win-standard button for it. And there is always "RTFM" - via Help; (of course you need to look in the browser's help - not Windows help.) John |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: IvanB Date: 18 Aug 03 - 10:07 PM Arnie, can't help much with your AOL problem, but you certainly don;t have to use AOL's browswer once you're connected. I tried the free trial of AOL this past winter when we were traveling, since my cable ISP didn't have any provision for dialup. I hated the interface so much that I started minimizing the window as soon as it appeared and loading my own browser. |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 19 Aug 03 - 11:23 AM Am I imagining things, or did I hear once that "AOL's browser" is really Internet Explorer with an AOL facade? If that is the case, try getting into IE and see if you can adjust things there. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Arnie Date: 19 Aug 03 - 04:32 PM Well, thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I can't get the damn thing sorted out. The problem is only on Mudcat, any other internet site I view is in normal sized text. Anyway, as a last resort I've decided to consult my son - as he builds computers for a a hobby if he can't fix it then I'm really sunk!! Cheers Arnie |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Bill D Date: 19 Aug 03 - 06:11 PM when I do a 'view source' on this thread, I get the following as part of the HTML "http://www.mudcat.org/personal.cfm?Num=82#messages">You have 82 messages it mentions a particular font size, and there are many other places where 'font' is regulated...I wonder if there is any way to control this 'locally'? (and how it might have gotten changed) |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 19 Aug 03 - 07:18 PM The code sets the font sizes relatively. That is, some things are told to display one size larger than the default, others one size smaller. There are no absolute font sizes defined that I can see. The default font size is whatever you have told your browser to use. |

Subject: RE: BS: Problems with mudcat display From: Bill D Date: 19 Aug 03 - 07:30 PM ok...that makes sense, Malcolm...except he says it is only in Mudcat...hmmmm... |
