Just watched the second show of this mystery show featuring D.I. Rebus. This one started out with him quoting a story/song?? Just wondering if any of you can tell me what it was from...it was about going down some stairs/hall(?) in the dark..the words I can remember were "me, Lupe, and little G."

Thanks,

kat

Sounds like it's from "The Park in the Dark", a beautifully illustrated children's book by Irish author Martin Waddell- it was a favourite of my childrens' (and mine).

And the story, briefly, from www.amazon.co.uk is ...

A hugely endearing picture book from the makers of the Big Bear and Little Bear series. When the sun goes down and the moon comes up, the toy monkey and his friends, Loopy the elephant and Little Gee the dog, creep softly out of the bedroom, down the stairs and through the dark hall on their way to the deserted park. The park's an exciting place to be after dark, though a little bit scary - especially when the Thing (a night train) hurtles out of the darkness, seeming to chase them. Then the three friends run all the way home and jump back into bed, safe and sound once more. Now a classic story, The Park in the Dark won the 1989 Kurt Maschler Award and has now been reissued to appeal to a new generation of young children.

Thank you so much, ya'll!! I really loved the quotes I heard of it. I can see I shall have to second guess the spelling of closed captioning typists! We just happened to have it on and "Lupe" to me was Loopy, as in the Spanish "loo-pay" (I thought it was the English accent that made it loo-pee!) and not knowing the book, I just thought that was correct. It was the cc which also spelled it "little g."

Off to check it out now. I love Rebus, too, Alba. I'm also going to look into Ian Rankin's books as the website interview of John/Jonothan(?) Hannah said they really tried to stay true to the novels.
