The local players are from Andalucia and Mexican American is not appreciated -- in fact one of the players pulled a switchblade when an LA-based visitor yelled "arriva" and "Under-lay" (ph.). So be warned but enjoy! Cheers, Brian |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Rapparee Date: 23 Oct 03 - 09:36 AM It's probably "Andalay!" and not "underlay." We do flamenco here in Idaho, especially up in the Northern part. The loggers, especially. They have a few beers, get the ol' gutbucket going, and started dancin' flamenco in their caulked boots. If you don't know what caulks are, they're like sharpened hobnails and are used to get good grip when you're riding schoolmarms and slicks and things downriver. Anyway, they get to flamenco dancin', usually on each other and anyone else who butts in or looks like they might. The ol' gutbucket's a twangin', maybe an accordion's goin', and the joint is really jumpin' and the blood is flowin', and the next day the bartender hoses the place out, picks up the teeth, eyes, ears and other assorted parts, and generally makes the place ready for more flamencoin'. Is it like that with el ted & co.? By the way, I can set up a gig in, say, McCall or Ketchum if you'd like to flamenco up there. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Beverley Barton Date: 23 Oct 03 - 09:54 AM hello rapaire, at last! a mud person who understands! things tend to be a little more restrained in flamenca de la east yorkshire, the most that happens is our nostrils may flare slightly from time to time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 23 Oct 03 - 10:38 AM There was a flamenco wuman in town last week, dancing in the park, queens gardens, it was headlines in local paper, and a picture was on front page, said something like "FLAMENCO WUMAN DANCES IN HULL!". it was something to do with that bloke from the pet shop, i think he helped organise it or something. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Beverley Barton Date: 23 Oct 03 - 11:23 AM yes i saw it john, she wasn't a dancer. it was some t'council charade to do with turning hull into a "top ten city" |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Rapparee Date: 23 Oct 03 - 01:05 PM el ted, then it ain't real flamenco. It's a bunch of poseurs who like to wear tight pants and high-heeled shoes. And that finger-snapping stuff don't hold a candle to a flamencoin' logger all caught up in the dance who puts his fist in someone's teeth. And as for castenets -- hereabouts the clickin' is done between bone and brass knuckles. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 23 Oct 03 - 08:53 PM heloo.john ps=i was going to write sumething here, but i fogot waht it was. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Beverley Barton Date: 24 Oct 03 - 08:03 AM Dear Rapaire what you and your chums get up to isn't flamenco, it's MORRIS DANCING! i bet you all shower together afterwards as well don't you!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Rapparee Date: 24 Oct 03 - 08:13 AM Nah, el ted, it ain't Morris dancing. That's what the cowboys teach the tenderfeet; it's named after Morris Percival Smythe-Withers and is done to the tune of .45 Colts (or, for fancy footwork, machine pistols). It's flamenco. If one of the loggers tied a hanky to his or her wrist and started waving it around everybody'd leave the bar, afraid of the clientele such would attract. Besides, Morris dancing was originally some sort of British fertility rite and nobody's got pregnant yet (from the dance, I don't know about other things). So it's flamenco. |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Beverley Barton Date: 24 Oct 03 - 08:28 AM touche mesurier! I'VE obviously wasted a lot of years studying guitarists from the south of spain, when really i should have just moved to idaho for the real thing! |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Bassic Date: 24 Oct 03 - 09:06 AM Mudchat Tutorial for el ted. 1 Scroll to the very top of the page 2 To the right of the Mudcat logo is a box that says "Quick links" 3 Click on the down arrow to open the list. 4 Click once on Mudchat(?)and it will turn blue and fill the box at the top and close the menu. The figure in the (?) will tell you how many people are currently in the chat room. 5 Click on "Go". This will open a new page (takes a few seconds) 6 The centre of the screen will be filled with a large grey box titled ENTER MUDCHAT 7 When getting started you can ignore the information in the box, just scroll down bellow the box and if there is anyone in the room their names will be listed, you can then decide if you wish to enter the room to chat to the people that are listed as being there. 8 To enter the chat room propper, scroll back up from the list of participants and click on the "EnterMudChat" button in the large grey box. 9 This will get you into the room propper. 10 On the right of the screen you will see the list of Mudcat Members currently in the room in the Blue Box, your name will be highlighted in BOLD type. 11 On the left is the large space which contains the live messages and conversations being posted in real time. 12 To put something on that screen and join in a conversation just type what you want to say in the narrow white box along the bottom of the screen. Click once on the box with your mouse if you dont see the blinking line at the left of that box. Your typed words will start to appear there. 13 You can type a medium length sentence, more will be lost. When you are happy with what you have written then press return/enter on your keyboard and it will be posted on the large white box with the other messages. Use the back key to edit BEFORE you press return because once return is pressed then that is it! 14 When you want to leave then click on the "LOG OFF" button and then close the window in the usual way. 15 You should also always use the "LOG OUT" function in the Quick Links every time you finnish using Mudcat. There are other features of MudChat to explore but the above should get you started. The most popular times for MudChat are between about 9.30pm and 1am UK time. There are occasionally people on at other times but not very often. Have fun! |

Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: Beverley Barton Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:30 AM yes that christy moore song about the virtues of a good quality "sit on" lawnmower seems to have been mis interperated by the folk world as some sort of dirge about loss, horses etc, when as we all now he had simply bought himself a damn fine qualcast and wanted to sing about it! |
Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new `Catter el ted From: sweetfire Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:50 AM dad, do some work....you spend far too much time on here...! |
