Subject: BS: Serendipitous Events From: Ebbie Date: 27 Oct 03 - 02:29 PM The Chance Meetings thread reminded me of some of the unexplained things that happen. Somewhere in the bowels of the mudcat earth there is a thread on serendipity- fortuitous events we've all experienced that follow no logical path but are coherent and to the point. I can't find it. (Good gracious. Talk about pedantry. But, hey.) I'll start with this one: Some years back my brother's family in Michigan and my sister's family in North Carolina planned to travel together to visit Oregon. My sister's family was to come to Michigan beforehand and they would travel in two cars, making some side trips, staying in the same motels, making it a fun part of the journey. A few days before the scheduled activities, one of them notified the other that they wouldn't be able to make it after all, and to go ahead without them. They would come later, if they could. On a freeway outside Laramie, Wyoming, my brother moved out of his lane to let in a car coming up the ramp. It was my sister's family. |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: GUEST,Kim C no cookie Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:12 PM I have often heard it said, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. When I first started playing the fiddle, Mister and I were at a historic site for a Christmas program. There was a fiddle player there and I went to ask him some questions. This in itself was a small miracle, because I don't like to approach strangers and introduce myself. But this time I did. He apologized for not having any business cards on him, but said if I'd call his shop, he'd give me the number of a teacher. I did, and he did. She has been my teacher now for five years. :) |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: Wolfgang Date: 28 Oct 03 - 04:23 AM The names of the old threads with most of these stories are: Serendipity Serendipity (again) Coincidences What are the chances? Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: Ebbie Date: 28 Oct 03 - 10:50 AM Thanks, Wolfgang. Now this is frustrating. Using the filter sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn't. This time it doesn't. Obviously I'm missing something. I put Serendipity into the Filter, set the time at 2 years and pressed Go. Nothing comes up. What else does one do? I looked in FAQ and I don't find anything in the Table of Contents with an obvious title such as 'Finding an Old Thread'. (Lots of other information, though. Thanks, Joe.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 03 - 10:57 AM Putting "seren" in the search and setting the date to "All" got one thread called Serendipity, again, but not the first one. Will go take another look. |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 03 - 11:03 AM Well, this is curious. Thinking the first one might have been misspelt, I just put in "ser" and set it to All...loads of threads came up but nothing about Serendipity but the one I've already listed. Not quite in the same vein as this one, but related I did find Coincidences? |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: Ebbie Date: 28 Oct 03 - 11:17 AM Thanks, kat. Rereading that Coincidences thread was interesting. Wonder why it was closed? I agree that we had pretty well covered the subject- but that never stopped us before. |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: Wolfgang Date: 28 Oct 03 - 11:39 AM Joe Offer about the new policy of thread closing I have used the old search with some words I would expect in the thread titles. But I made a mistake: There is no thread titled 'Serendipity', only Jeri has once in a completely unrelated thread changed the subject line to the one word 'serendipity'. That's why I made the mistake and have led kat down the garden path. Sorry. Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: BS: Serendipitous Events From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 03 - 12:36 PM That's okay, Wolfgang, it was a pretty interesting garden path.:-) |
