On Religion and Ethics Weekly, (PBS) there was a program about the over 43 million US citizens who work and are too poor to afford health insurance. The AMA (I believe) was quoted on this program that 18,000 (!) a year die in the US needlessly because they cannot access needed care as they do not have health insurance. One fellow the show focused on, a man named Sheen, had a job until he had a stroke and his job did not provide, nor could he afford insurance. For our non-US catter, we are looking at 350 a month, often more than a weeks pay to get the cheapest coverage which does not cover much of your health needs. Well, he is now homeless, paying most the money he gets as a working homeless American to collection agencies to pay off the bills that ruined him after the stroke wounded him. Among the costs for his hospitalization... $200 for a mucus reduction kit. What is this? a box of cleanex- this is out right theft. $200 for a 35 cent product.
So who are the Terrorists? In 2001, ElQuada killed a bit over two and a half thousand Americans. In the same year, a conspiracy of Insurance brokers and health care providers killed 18,000. They did so with the help of both political parties, to whom they pay huge amounts of economic support.
Next shall we consider the tobacco industry?
Where is the anger, where is the dedication to a fight against terrorism?
Larry
