I have a book called "The Wild Heather Glen" which covers the Kilmichael ambush and has mini-biographies of all the paricipants. Some of the "Boys" later went to the United States and some lived out their lives there. I wonder if any 'catter living in California could perhaps get some information/photo of the grave of one of the lads, namely James O'Mahoney (1897 - 1979). He died while working in his garden in Sunny Vale, California and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Thanks for any help.

Fiolar, Do you know which song has this line:
Forget not the boys of Kilmichael Whose....

And that is all my feeble brain can come up with.

FWIW, Sunnyvale is all one word; it is located in Santa Clara County, where such death records are probably located. Colma is just North, in San Mateo County, and has mile after mile of graveyards. Even people from Colma joke about the fact that dead people there outnumber the living.

Fiolar, I tried FindaGrave.com & they have no listing for a James Mahoney.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=8038&CScn=Holy+Cross&CSst=6&

Perhaps if you do gain access to some info-you might want to list his name. Mickey

i put up a message here but i do not see it..
so i will try again.
i am amember of an "organization" (though random)
called RAOGK, random acts of geneaological kindness
and i have put a request on a list of genealogists.
The purpose of that organization is that info will
be found and you may be requested to do similar
searches in your area. i do not see anyprofile
for Fiolar...i presume you are in Ireland?

Fiolar, I added "San Francisco" to your thread title to see if that wakes up any of the people in that area. Colma is 125 miles from me, so I'm not going to volunteer. I can't think of anybody who's right near Colma, but maybe somebody will make the drive for you.
Good luck.

Thanks Nigel--Tried this search yesterday & got nothing--my fault I'm sure--cause it's all there today. I truly thought it was a throw away line in another song. Now that i've read the lyrics I'm sure Alzheimers has paid a visit. I know the whole darn song. Very Stirring!

you never answered where you are now...
because the genealogy folks may have
some reciprocal question for you to
find for them...look up an obituary
or something...where are you?

You should be able to contact the cemetery and get information about the plot number and it's location---also check Find A Grave, though Mahoney is not listed there, you should be able to find someone in the Bay Area who likes to look for the graves of historical figures--
