Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Big Mick Date: 25 Dec 03 - 11:07 AM I am floored by my wonderful gifts!! Thanks so very much to SS Sussex Carole. Your thoughtfullness is noted with enormous gratitude and warmth, m'dear. The Songs of the Hebrides collection (book) literally took my breath away. It is a very old collection originally published in the early years of the 20th century, and reissued in the 1920's. WOW!!!! I love it. And I almost swallowed my tongue laughing at the book of Bollocks from Management. Damn, but won't I use this while organizing to show that some things are universal.....hahahahahahaha. And you ....... the chocolates..... you are trying to turn me back into Fat Mick again, eh? I am going to take your advice and enjoy them and the other goodies through the holiday season, and get back to losing right after. You are a very special person, Carole, and I am very grateful. Happy Christmas!!!! All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: jaze Date: 25 Dec 03 - 07:35 AM Merry Christmas. And thanks to my SS-Nicky in San Diego. I Searched with what little hint I had and may have a clue. He sent a Scripps Institute Of Oceanography Tshirt, a couple of funny Christmas Books and a really unusual chain(did you make it?) As to my guess.... Are you Guest Nick??Thanks for the great gifts. Jaze |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: greg stephens Date: 25 Dec 03 - 07:15 AM Well I've opened the present, which is wonderful and highly Scottish. The CD of Jim reid suggests it might be form Jim Reid, but I cant figure out what Mudact nom-de-plume might conceal Mr reid. Thank you Jim, if you it be. I will go back to studying the various hints to work out your name so that I can write to you. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Ranger Steve's Secret Santa Date: 24 Dec 03 - 09:02 PM Let's see... I gave you my address ( which is right down the road a piece) and a collection of "Getaway Video". Hmmm I wonder what type of Mudcat search might discover who I am. Somewhere in all that tape I even sent myself..... |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: RangerSteve Date: 24 Dec 03 - 08:35 PM Mine was in my PO box this morning. I opened it when I got home. Candy - old childhood favorites: sugar water in wax bottles, wax lips, candy buttons, and a candy necklace. Two cook books: one for wild game and fish, the other is Mary Ann's Gilligans Island Cook Book. (The latter will go well with Aunt Bee's Mayberry CB, which I already have.) Some old postcards from the 40's. A video cassette of Mudcatters in performance. I can't wait to see what you guys look like. A jar of Marmite. Really. I tasted it, although my roommate warned me not to. HOLY COW, DO PEOPLE REALLY EAT THAT STUFF? No wonder my secret Santa chose to remain anonymous. But I have his/her address, and I'm an officer of the law, so I can find out who it is. But I won't. It seems that possession of Marmite with intent to distribute is not against the law. It should be, but it isn't. Anyway, thanks, whoever you are. The rest of the presents were great, and now I can contribute to any future Marmite threads that come up. Merry Christmas. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Joybell Date: 24 Dec 03 - 07:30 PM Aha! found the "Christmas Day and I've opened my pressie" thread cleverly hidden in here. Well I've opened mine too and I've already been waxing lyrical over my present on a new thread about Christmas in Australia. It's worth repeating here because I have the most wonderful CDs. One of Old American rural singers from Kentucky and one of Doc Watson and Bill Munroe. Lovely old pictures on the fronts. "Treasure!" my True-love said when he woke up and found me opening the rural singers one. He used to know Gus Mead who co-produced it. Thank you so much Secret Santa Snuffy. |

Subject: RE: BS:It's Christmas Day & I've opened my pressie From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 24 Dec 03 - 08:22 AM It's 12.16 Christmas Day here & I have just opened my pressie. It was well wrapped & covered in little polystyrene or whatever squiggles. Thankyou Micca (MA Patterson!!) author of one of my favourite songs "The Hash my Father Scored" I am listening to my CD of the Barn at Towersey Aug 2003 - it was a hard decision whether to listen to that or Lorna Campbell. It's also hard to type with a beautiful brown bear in my left hand. I've let go the bear & forwarded to track 8 to listen to you singing Lord Franklin (Les Barker version) - I love it!! The Lord of Misrule card will be shared wth my Morris dancing friends when I see them next. ThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyou etc. big hugs to you sandra |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Helen Date: 23 Dec 03 - 06:35 PM Well, Blackcatter, I had to open them and I am glad I did. I haven't listened to the Mrs Miller CD all the way through yet so I can't really tell what I think about her singing style, although what I have heard is definitely "different". The blue pottery cup is beautiful. I love the colour, and the little owl is beautiful too, and so are the shells and the stone. I love the notes you wrote about everything. But, the Ceoltóirí CD, Women of Ireland .... what can I say? I thought I would never hear a music group to rival Sileas or the Poozies, but this is pure musical brilliance - not just technically brilliant, but scintillating, pure voices, pure instrumental parts, beautiful choices of songs and tunes. Wonderful! Thank you so much. I know, after only one listen, that this is going to be one of my favourite CD's. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Blackcatter Date: 23 Dec 03 - 06:01 PM Great to see you got them Helen. Enjoy them. Blackcatter |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 23 Dec 03 - 05:35 PM Don't worry dear Santa. I know you're thinking of me, and that has already made my holiday bright. If you're in the time zone I think you're in -- that compounded with the fact that Kentucky is ~20 years behind most civilized commonwealths and countries -- I really wouldn't get too concerned about time and dates. I am anxious to know who you are. It's always fun having friends around the world. Now I have someone else to pester for pictures and postcards of foreign lands. (and even Tennessee and Ohio are foreign to me) |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Mary in KY's Secret Santa Date: 23 Dec 03 - 02:28 PM Hi Mary, I am still hoping that your present will arrive before Christmas. I sent it on 8 December, but rain, snow, sleet, wind, hail, earthquakes, floods, droughts, tornadoes might have slowed it down somewhat in its journey. It's Christmas Eve morning here now (6.26 am) but there is almost an extra half-day before your Christmas Eve starts, so my fingers and toes are crossed. Your Secret Santa - it's hard to chew fingernails with your fingers crossed. |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Morticia Date: 23 Dec 03 - 07:07 AM Whoopeee!!!! It came, it came!!!! Thank you Big Mick, you are every bit the perfect Santa! I haven't opened the wrapped pressies but the signed record album by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger has already blown me away....wow,is all I can say.How like you to give away something so precious, thank you seems inadequate for such a fabulous gift. The jams and preserves look wonderful ( guess who'll be fighting her kids off on Christmas morning when they make their debut on the breakfast table?). And the toffee/chocolate apple.....how did you know they are my favourite? There will be chocolate all over my face and toffee in my ears before bedtime, I expect. Thank you. I was feeling just a little low this morning and then got a lovely long phone call from my brother, whom I haven't heard from in many months and then your wonderful presents. I think today is going to be a very good day after all. |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Jaze's Secret Santa Date: 23 Dec 03 - 05:04 AM Ahem, sorry, haven't been reading this thread regularly...... Hints, hm... well... er... I'm probably not one you'd think of as being a US catter if you knew me. I sing with a maritime themed group of which several members are catters and am currently spending a lot of my time at SIO. Thing of hints is almost as hard as thinking of presents so I'll leave it at that for a moment and see if it helps. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Partridge Date: 23 Dec 03 - 04:04 AM No word or pressie from my santa either............:-( |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 22 Dec 03 - 11:17 PM Well, I threatened to be naughty and got busted by the thought police. Y'all better watch out! Mary (still being good) |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: SINSULL Date: 22 Dec 03 - 11:11 PM sniff sniff. Add me to the naughty list too, I guess. Santa promised me a man and every morning I shower and shave my legs and wait. But nothing. Not even an anatomically correct blow up model. Maybe for New Years. I could use a date for New Years. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Robin2 Date: 22 Dec 03 - 10:55 PM Yep, dangly earrings are what I like best. And I did notice that they were periwinkle, a color I love, and one that goes with lots of my stuff. Thanks Jeri, and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too! Robin2 |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Jeri Date: 22 Dec 03 - 10:46 PM The Portland Collection was a sure thing, since you said you wanted it. I LOVE that tunebook! The jewelry was a risk, since I didn't know if the length or style of the beads would be something you liked. You said you liked periwinkle though, and that was about as periwinklish as I could find. Do you usually wear dangly earrings? The wires are nickel free, by the way. Robin, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: jimmyt Date: 22 Dec 03 - 09:48 PM I can see it all now.................."orticia, Jimmyt and NicoleC,,, this year's Santa Losers!!" Sigh..... so much for impure thoughts! |

It looked at me. Had more egg nog. repeat, with more egg nog. It whispered...open me and then..... THANK YOU JERI!!!! I love my necklace and earrings, just my color! Thanks for making them for me! You've given me new enthusiasm to work on my music with "The Portland Collection". And the "ear clips" will be perfect for flipping to the next tune in the set. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! Robin2 |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Helen Date: 22 Dec 03 - 07:40 PM I just collected my pressie from the Post Office about an hour ago. Now I have to wait and see how long I can resist temptation before opening the parcels. I didn't resist temptation at all to open the box, so I do know who the pressie is from: Blackcatter!! Thank you so much, Blackcatter. You probably won't have to wait too long to find out what I think of the presents because I can guarantee I will have opened them before Christmas morning. Well, I'm going to have to put a message here, aren't I, in time for Christmas, and we are travelling on Christmas morning, so that means......I get to open them sooner! Yay! Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Alba's Ananymous Aelf Date: 22 Dec 03 - 05:00 PM And that means that the circle remains unbroken, Ann luv. |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: CapriUni Date: 22 Dec 03 - 04:43 PM I opened my Secret Santa pressie today, rather than waiting for Christmas, because it was clearly marked as being from the "Solstice Faery"... Inside the big pack were several smaller packages. One was a bag of chocolate truffles -- yummy!! A second one, wrapped in deep purple tissue paper, contained a pair of beautiful red candles, painted with spirals and other designs -- definitely too beautiful to burn!! A third package contained a beautiful ceramic pin (broach) with a viking-age like design of a rider on horse. It almost makes me want to get dressed up, so I can have an excuse to wear it in public. Then, there was a cd-rom with my Santa singing four of her songs, and she has a lovely, deep voice. The note inside the jewel case promised that there is a full CD of her work coming in January. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked for it, I expect it will be a good one! But the last inner package was the biggest of all: I tore off the tissue paper, and slipped it out of the bubble wrap to find a Sandman book by Neil Gaimon: "Book III: Dream Country." I'd forgotten that I'd said in my hints list that friends So: Yay!! Chocolate and pretties, and music, and a new book! if that's not Yule, I don't know what is... Oh, and she included a lovely card with a moose head on the outside, and a hint on the inside -- her Mudcat nick starts and ends with "A" and there are two blanks in the middle... That could only mean: Alba! She only just joined us in February of this year, so this may be a bit late in coming, but: WELCOME anyway!! |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Bardford Date: 22 Dec 03 - 12:38 PM My pressie has yet to arrive, but I received a PM from my SS letting me know the gift is on its way. Reading between the lines of her message, I'm fairly certain I've guessed what it is. A pony!! Yippee! Thanks, Nacy Jo! Off to stock up on oats, Bradford |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Bat Goddess Date: 22 Dec 03 - 12:37 PM Partridge -- the licorice Flyers are GONE (what an addictive concept -- but I even let Jeri eat half of one) and Sabine ADORES the catnip cat treats. (Mortimer didn't get excited, but hey, he's Mortimer.) And I've been daydreaming over the map. (That's what maps are for, right?) Jeri was over yesterday and we poked and prodded and shook (lightly) the 12 wrapped gifts. If it weren't for Curmudgeon, I would have opened them all (probably Friday night). Sigh. But I'll be a good kid and wait til Christmas morning. Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: JennyO Date: 22 Dec 03 - 12:10 PM Opened the rest of my prezzie yesterday (solstice), and found a couple of interesting books about the Pendle Witches, and yum, some KENDALL MINT CAKE! Thankyou thankyou thankyou Santa. You've been doing your homework, haven't you! But no more clues as to who you are. OK, I'm gonna guess. I'm off to Woodford tomorrow and won't be back till the 3rd Jan, so I won't know if I'm right or not, but I am guessing that you are Col K. Am I right???? Also my santee should be getting his/her present very soon, hopefully before Xmas. I suppose I'll have to wait a while to find that out, too. Oh well............ Jenny |
Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: Partridge Date: 22 Dec 03 - 03:52 AM Hi Linn, I'm really glad the package arrived. I'd been tracking it for a while and it seemed for ages that in was getting sorted in an international hub and not moving anywhere! It was good fun getting the gifts together and I hope you enjoy them. Sorry to hear about the job situation, I bet 2004 will bring some great opportunities for you. Pat x |

Subject: RE: BS: My pressie has arrived!!! From: GUEST,Robin2's Slowpoke Santa Date: 21 Dec 03 - 08:41 PM First Santa's sleigh got snowed in, then Donner partied too much and must have eaten something that disagreed with him. And Blitzen...don't ask. Anyway, everyone knows Santa does *everything* at the last minute. All that rushing around on Chrismas night is just because of Santa's poor time management skills. I just wanted you to know that your present is on its way. When I mailed it last week, the Postal Elf told me it would definitely be there before Christmas. But Santa's sister-in-law Sue Bordenitte-Clause mailed him a package a week ago and it's still not here. |
