Back in early October I attended a Bill Staines concert in Carbondale, Il. He had just received the author's copy of his new book and was taking orders for it. Yesterday I received my copy and it is a very interesting read! I recommend it to anyone who has heard Bill on recordings or who has seen him in person. Indeed, there is much material in this book about many of the folk legends we all know and love. Bill knows everybody and writes of his contacts with them in a very insightful way. And if you want to know what life on the road is like, this road warrior's book will give you the insight you want! I have been priviledged to hear some of the stories in personal conversations with Bill, and this book brings them back to mind. Great job, Bill!

Where can we get it? I live in Ireland so am unlikely to be able to see him. Is there a mail-order address? Thanks -

YOu can probably get a copy from Bill himself if you email him at:
billstaines@attbi.com....

Been waiting for it too... I've shared some great stories with him... and heard a little bit about the book when he was out this year.... looking forward to the read myself.....

Bonnie, check out Bill's web site and get in touch with him that way. He handles the orders himself, probably with his wife's and son Bowen's help. It is really a well writen book.

You might get in touch with Amazon.co.uk & see if they'd be willing to carry it (although I suspect you'd need to persuade them they could sell enough copies to make it worth their while). If they did, it would help you avoid the high cost of shipping from the US.

Actually, I've just checked Amazon.co.uk myself (did a search for "Bill Staines") & found a book called "The Tour" (published 1 Sept 03, so I assume that's the same book Big Jim has in mind). However, its availability is listed as: "...not in stock. If you would like to purchase this title, we recommend that you request it used," but (not surprisingly) there are as yet no used copies actually available to purchase.

Perhaps if Amazon.co.uk gets a *lot* of requests for "The Tour", they might decide to get it in stock...

Cheers,

YY

I just sent an email to Bill. This was his reply:

The new booked, entitled "The Tour" is available from me for $25.00 (price includes shipping)at:

Bill Staines
Box 292
Dover, NH 03821

Sounds like a good way to help support one of our favorite singer-songwriters!

best,

bbc

I too got an immediate (and friendly) response from Bill giving me the same info as above, by emailing his website, i.e.

billstaines@comcast.net

This does seem the best way to do it. Thanks to all above for the help and especially to Big Jim for the heads-up.
