As I currently have no one IRL to play with I thought I'd see if anyone was up for a game. Standard Rushton rule set with double points for diagonals while in knip.

I am sorry McGrath, it is not possible to claim a win after the Hull diversion without the correct form of spellink bein used, M90rnigtun Cresunt (next door to the Curry Ship). That makes it mine I think!

Sorry, but following last year's incident you can't currently get from Bank or Colindale to Mornington Crescent without changing at Euston or Camden Town.

And to add a musical bent...

(Bent what? You may well ask!)

Who can remember the lyrics that would take you from Finchley Central to Golders Green on the Norther line? I am sure that would involve changing at Euston and going via the M word...

Or where, just down the line, did a violent hash smoker shake a chocolate machine?

Cheers

"Finchley Central" by New Vaudeville Band reached No11 in the UK charts in 1967. Their only higher chart successes were
"Winchester Cathedral" (No4 in 1966) &
"Peek-A-Boo" (No7 in 1967)

Oooooo... nice one Edain! And the perfect opportunity for me to implement the Sheffield digression (See appendix IV B regarding the Kelham Island variant)... so the obvious choice is Dungworth (Royal Hotel, of course!)

Cheers,

YY

P.S. I believe that's a diagonal and nets me double points...

Oops! Unfortunately, Phot posted while I was in the process of composing my message/move. I'm afraid I'll have to invoke the "Out of Sequence Penalty conjugations" in Section XII, and change my move to the Blue Ball in Deepcar. It messes up my diagonal though, so I don't get the double points after all...

I don't think you lot have been studying your Stovold's. Outer squares when in nidd can leave you in a crater with the telephones not working.

Being an old hand and orginator of the Sheffield diversion via the Royal at Dungworth, I do claim the right to use a book.

From "Stovold's Mornington Crescent Almanac 2002". (Orion Books 2001)
(ISBN 0-75284-729-5)

"if the game refuses to shut down then several courses of action may be tried:

Advance your slappings and sacrifice Bethnal Green. North's partner will be forced to trump. Say "Mornington Crescent" whether you have prised open your laterals or not".

If "leapfroging" is allowed I'll go Owler Bar, Baslow, Haddon Road Bakewell, claim "double pints" on Thursday night at the Manners session, Matlock station, Derby London then taxi to Mornington Crescent for extra points.

Do I win?

No one can 'win' Mornington Crescent. I suppose that the last person not to become interminable bored by this unfunny and worthless pursuit, may have a decent arguement for a prize.

Unfortunatly he (and it's always a he) will be by himself by this stage...

YorkshireYankee,

I was meaning when the 'game' is played on Internet forums, rather than Radio 4.

Two entirely different things...

Well, actually, when this thread was kicked off by Edain, you could have got to Mornington Crescent from High Barnet direct, no bother, without playing the game. Or even (as suggested by Edain) from Morden this morning.

When last seen (about 3 hours ago), there were no trains between Finchley Central and High Barnet on account of another problem on the Northern line.

Who needs a game, when the real thing is now quite surreal?

Kitty
