Any chance of some more details, like, what time and which Watering Hole?

Not all of us have instant recall of the Yorkshire topography, although Manitas can find almost any pub anywhere. It's a morris dancer thing.

Unfortunately it looks as though I won't be able to make it this time round. I have Coven stuff to do on the 13th which will run on late which would mean travelling up on the saturday and arriving quite late.....I will see what I can do

We hope to make at least part of it although it depends on work shifts for the live in baby sitters. Were also planning to go to the Old Time Festival in Gainsborough - they all come at once like buses!

Your accent is not very pronounced but how about some of the accents fromthe West Riding? As I said, it's just a matter of getting used to them. Liz used to put the subtitles on to watch Rab C. Nesbitt but I had no trouble at all.

I have a Yorkshire accent still even though I have live in London for a while now.....I don't think my accent is difficult to understand although some people would beg to differ!!! Sorcha says she sometimes has difficulty in understanding me when we are on the phone.....

The Yorkshire accent isn't different from all else. An accent in Yorkshire is part of a continuum of accents within Yorkshire and within the English language. Much of the south-east of England has had the local accents flattened out by the presence of London and it's this variety of English you'll usually hear in the media and which is regarded as 'standard'. Yorkshire's just far enough away from London that the difference in accent is hard to understand if you are unused to it. The same goes for the West Country, Black Country, Lancashire etc. You just need to learn to appreciate the variety of English in the UK.

I was in England in '01 and when we got to Yorkshire, I thought I was still in England - but what they were speaking didn't appear to be English. At least, the English in the rest of England, and even in Scotland, for that matter, sounded different from 'Murican, but I could understand it...
