Subject: RE: Tech/PC: exporting WAVs to minidisc? From: Dave Bryant Date: 14 Jan 04 - 06:46 AM Most MDs which I have seen have optical digital input - It's usually through the same 3.5mm jack which takes the analogue input. Sound cards which have digital output are much rarer though (the Hercules Digifire 7.1 is probably one of the cheapest). As already said, the NetMDs will receive digital signals from a USB port so wouldn't need this. Why wait any longer to buy a CD burner though ? - over here in the UK, I can pick one up for about 30 pounds - a DVD/CDR burner is only about 70 pounds. |

Subject: RE: Tech/PC: exporting WAVs to minidisc? From: Nemesis Date: 13 Jan 04 - 07:10 PM Hi Clint .. No .. it's not a NeTMD .. too old for that . :( it's an old Denon .. very sturdy and very good quality so far, but not up to date features .. Hi Tree .. point taken about the line out .. yes, that's what I'm doing .. attentuator? (not sure what that is or where to get it?) I think then, it all points to a new NetMD (mini-disc) with optical input and also see if I can check the sound card for an optical output .. maybe get that adapted or summat .. ho hum! But, many thanks because that's actually straightened out the confusion and highlighted the solution(s)... Nem xx |
Subject: RE: Tech/PC: exporting WAVs to minidisc? From: treewind Date: 13 Jan 04 - 01:06 PM If you are using ordinary analog line out to Minidisc in (stereo minijack - stereo minijack), my guess is that you're using the MD's microphone input. If it has a line input use that; if it doesn't have a line input you've got a problem, but an attenuator to reduce the level by about 30 dB should do the trick. If your MD has optical input (likely if it's Sony) and your sound card has optical output (only a few do), doing it digitally is a good plan, using that optical cable they tried to sell you. Subject: RE: Tech/PC: exporting WAVs to minidisc? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 13 Jan 04 - 12:31 PM Is it a NetMD recorder? If it is, then it should have a USB connection that allows you to "Check Out" tracks using the OpenMD Jukebox |
Subject: Tech/PC: exporting WAVs to minidisc? From: Nemesis Date: 12 Jan 04 - 07:53 PM Being a newbie to recording I'd be grateful for any ideas on this tech problem: I'm successfully loading (via jack-to-jack) minidisc recordings to my PC and sound editing them. Exporting them again to minidisc (via jack-to-jack) produces terrible sound quality (and I need "broadcast quality") (I'm going to purchase a CDR drive ... but I'd like the option to make minidisc recordings as well). The Sony/PC shops are a bit puzzled - otherwise want to sell me an new MDR or expensive software* - and exhausted their knowledge with an optical jack to optical square cable (designed for HiFi to MDR). This doesn't fit the computer (bit old - WIN 98 but with USB ports) - Is there an adapter for the optical cable? Is there a better/different type of cable I can get? Many thanks Nem *The software price being quoted is GBP99.00 .. a bit steep compared to the cost of a new MDR .. ! |
