I'm looking for lyrics to a song called Maggie Pickens which I think was on an album by Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy...

I remember a few words:
Maggie Pickens had a cow
Black and White about the brow

I've searched the web and found nothing so would be most thankful for any help.
Walt

Paddy Tunney sang it; it's essentially the same song, and evidently of Scottish origin, though known in Ireland since at least the 1940s both as a song and a dance tune (Molly Picking on the Shore and so on). You'll find Katie Beardie in the DT.

^^
MAGGIE PICKENS

Maggie Pickens on the wall
Maggie Pickens very tall
Maggie Picken goin to fall
Maggie Pickens dancin

Maggie Pickens had a coo
Black and white abeen the brow
Open the gates and let her through
Maggie Pickens' ain coo

Maggie Pickens at Kilmore
Gatherin cockles by the score
She lifted her leg and let a roar
--What the devil ails you?

Maggie Pickens at Kilmore
She had daughters twenty-four
Wishes she could have some more
A row dil dootle deil dum

My mother sent me to the well
I missed my foot and in I fell
She really should have gone herself
What the devil ails you?

My mother sent me to the burn
With the scrubber and a churn
I fell in, was nearly drouned
A row dil dee dil dootle dum

Ah yes, Nathan D Rose's website. I was forgetting that he had recorded Paddy. The song appears on Paddy's The Wild Bees' Nest, which I have on a tape somewhere or other; I don't recall if he sings the full text that Nathan got, though. You can see from the lyric quoted that it's a variant of Katie Beardie / Whistle o'er the Lave o't.

Yes, the lyrics came from Nathan D Rose's website. I don't know the song so cannot comment on whether it's the full version or not.

Tommy Makem did a version in the later years. One of his Makem & Clancy albums. The Makem & Clancy Collection, something like that!
The cassette was white & the label was orange. That's how I found it in the Civic, the Subaru, the first Tempo... & so on, for close to twenty years.
Grin!
Jim.

This is what I can make out from just listening to the Makem Clancy version:

Maggie Pickens Bought a coat hairy tail and hairy troat [?????]
Brought her home in Murphy's boat
Maggie Pickens churnin'
Magie Pickens ???
??????? Murphy's hay
Maggie ????

Maggie Pickens had a duck
Had the very worst of luck
Tried to swim but didn't ??
Maggie Pickens laughin'
Maggie Pickens bought a drake
Put him out upon the lake
The duck she followed in his wake
Maggie's standin next't'm

Maggie Pickens ???
Started at the harvest dance
She thought she'd never have a chance
Maggie Pickens courtin'
Maggie Pickens always said
She didn't think she'd ever wed
She's in love with Little Ted
Maggie's gettin' wed Ted

Any corrections or real lyrics would be very helpful. :)

You probably figured that out. ;)

First line is likely goat (not coat) and troat=throat.

Hope someone else has a copy to listen to and decipher :)

From the short clip available at Amazon, I can make out:

Maggie Pickens bought a goat hairy tail and hairy throat
Brought her home in Murphy's boat
Maggie Pickens churnin'
Maggie Pickens' goat one day
it got into
Murphy's hay
Maggie had the bill to pay
Maggie sold her boat

Maggie Pickens had a duck
Had the very worst of luck
Tried to swim but it got stuck
Maggie Pickens laughin'
Maggie Pickens bought a drake
Put him out upon the lake
duck she followed in his wake
Maggie's standin next't'm
