Three weeks running now I have had recourse to travel down the length of Cheshire and Shropshire. The last time (Yesterday) I also traveled the Wye Valley and bits of Herefordshire around Hereford.

It is a beatiful looking section of the Country. Monmouth looked a lovely town (City?) as did Tintern. (Joke heard on Wogan - 2 brummies traveling down the Wye valley. Oh, look. An Abbey. Tintern Abbey. Tis an Abbey!) Anywaym, I digress. I love the lake district and the Yorkshire dales but these areas look just as lovely, and perhaps a little easier on the old legs!

Anyone know the Stretton Hills or the Wye Valley well? Anyone folking about round there? Any recommendations or advice about visiting the area?

Cheers

DtG

Ey up Dave!

Church Stretton / Little Stretton, Ratlinghope, Wenlock Edge....all beautiful and just down the road. The Plough on Wenlock Edge used to have music, but that was many years ago.

Mr Happy may have some folking info on the area.

Cheers,

John

I live in the Wye Valley... lovely innit!

Monmouth is a town... (Market town)... lots of music on and about just got to do some digging! Monmouth has a folk club, there are various sessions dotted about the villaged etc.

monmouth folk club

would be a good start - then there's a few people there who will tell you what else is on... there's also some stuff on in the forsest of Dean - just the other side of the valley...

Ella

"Wye is a valley, Ware is a town ..." (say it out loud and see whatkind of daft response you get!)

Just noticed on another thread that Ms Lemon is from near the Strettons as well. Perhaps a venue for a gathering?

:D

There used to be a simple campsite (Ashes Valley?) in Little Stretton, follow the road up the side of the Ragleth pub, cross the ford and there it was (is?).

Try the Golden Valley - it is just restful rather than exquisite. But a haven. And on a thursday night the Black Swan in Much Dewchurch is not far away.

Hi Dave! Drop in at Stourport-on-Severn on your way past for a pint of Banks's- or we could meet up in Worcester at a folk club on a Friday night.

All new to me down here :0)

I might make it at that Noreen!

I thought Stourport was on the Stour. Or is that Stourbridge?

Don't confuse me - You know I can't take it;-)

Cheers

It's on both- isn't that clever? At the confluence of the Stour and the Severn.

Mobile number's still the same as ever, Dave.
