Well, it could be that the one you're after isRose of Avondale ... but that's probably too modern to be the one you're after.

Nobody bothered to give you the searching tips you need for the DT (this time ... they get repeated pretty often!).

Names are a snare and delusion! The more of the name you type in, the more chance it won't agree with (any of) the title(s) in the DT. The most secure bits of this title are "Rose of Al* and that's a pretty safe bet to pick up most versions of the song ... alternatively, you can try a search on a safely archetypal set of words from the lyric.

Another approach is to go straight to the DT itself (the bottom part of the "Lyrics and Knowledge" box up the top of the page). You can select the letter with which you think the title starts, click "Go" and scroll through ... but this one is neither under "R" (for Rose of Allendale nor "A" for Allendale ... it is listed as Sweet Rose of Allendale - so it comes under "S"!

There is also a local Halifax song, VERY beautiful, called Sweet Rose of Avalon. Supplied the words to Skarpi last year. Could that be it? There is a Lyr Req for it I see now. Skarpi had requested it from me in a PM. Will have to dig out the words and post in that old thread.

Could be. It's been posted here a few times, usually by the same people and never with any source information. There's a Rose of Ardee as well. Trouble is, there's a Rose of almost everywhere; except, so far as can so far be told, Avondale.

Brucie, I think there's a rule here if you mention a song that hasn't been posted, you have to post the lyrics. If you can't find a song with that title, you have to make one up. So, what was it you were saying about Avonlea?

I grouped this thread with "Rose of Allendale," with full knowledge that there could be a "Rose of Avondale." Hey, you don't think it's Rose of Arranmore, do you?

Mentions of The Rose of Avondale here do seem to be from people who have just got the title of The Rose of Allandale wrong, sometimes as the result of an imagined Irish connection. There is a Blackbird of (Sweet) Avondale (which is Irish), and American songs about a mining disaster at a place of that name, but I don't find any useful references to a Rose of Avondale; though I do have an old LP of a Pipe Band playing a tune they call by that name; it's The Rose of Allandale, though, with the wrong title. Is there actually a song of that name at all?

I searched the DT and Forum but found either the Rose of Allendale or the Avondale Mining Disaster. Could this be a different song altogether?
