The economy is in the Dumpster, the country has the worst deficit it has ever had and it's getting worse, we need 150,000 new jobs a month just to stay even and all he came up with last month was 21,000 new jobs, Iraqis don't want the government Bush wants them to have, bin Laden is still loose, despite infringements of civil liberties we're no safer from terrorist attacks than we were before 9/11, and if he tries to use the footage taken on the deck of the Abraham Lincoln showing him in a flight suit, he knows he'll be greeted with guffaws and raspberries.

What's a poor incumbent to do?

Any incumbent President during 9/11 would have done at least as well as Mr. Bush. I don't understand the human psyche that makes a politician "great" or "strong" just because he was in office at the time of a tragic event. Just what did he do that was so special and great at the time? Where did he lead in an extraordinary way?

Are you saying Mr. Bush has prevented more such attacks? The county as a whole is responsible, not just one man. He has not lead the country in such a way as to preempt another attack. Governmental agencies have all individually realized that to be more vigilant is prudent. As a law enforcement officer at the time, my agency independently increased its awareness concerning terrorists acts without Presidential directives.

On another forum I belong to, someone pointed out that FDR used Pearl Harbor as a reelection tool. Not taking up for George, just saying it's been done before. I imagine even US Grant capitalized on the Civil War in his campaign too.

The Mayor of New York was THE political figure during the 9-11 attack. That guy has real brass ones. Rudy Giuliani looked like a pro. Bush looked like a poorly-scripted amateur. Bush still does.

And my friend, Doug, as others have eluded to as well as myself, I find it real curious that while the so-called investigation on 9/11 moves forward to try to find out what went wrong, that it is the Bush administrations sandbagging that is slowing it's progress...

Like why he would let a Sauid airliner into American airspace just two days after 9/11 to collect bin Laden family members, fir starters...
