Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 24 Mar 04 - 12:07 PM Well if we're talking more than just hourly time (as in time zones) and are talking months and years, I would argue that we might want to think about using a lunar calendar. I suggest this partly because it's different (as are we), partly because it's the <>old type of calendar (as is folk music), and partly because the solar calendar was typically insituted to help agricultural communities know when to sow, reap, etc. We don't need that around here. We could also use a new year numbering system - year one, day one being the date that Mudcat first came on line. pax y'all |

Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Jeanie Date: 24 Mar 04 - 02:26 PM Don't forget to include in the calculations this song from the 1920s: When it's Night-Time in Italy, it's Wednesday Over Here All should be totally clear now ;) - jeanie |

Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Peace Date: 24 Mar 04 - 08:42 PM Dear Mom, I have ended up in a place called the Mudcat Cafe and they have discovered that time is different everywhere. But, they may have a way to make it the same time for everyone. I think I will need lots of drugs to give this the thought it requires. Could you please send $840,791.56? I will anxiously await your letter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: GUEST,nurse ratched Date: 24 Mar 04 - 08:47 PM dear son what you need is not drugs, son, but some good advice. I can provide this, with a little tough talk on the side, for a fee. regards nurse ratched |

Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: LadyJean Date: 25 Mar 04 - 01:06 AM Did you hear about the Newfoundlander (I never say Newfie) who opened a Chinese restaurant? The food's just great, but half an hour later you're half an hour later. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Peace Date: 27 Mar 04 - 05:06 PM Tax on drugs? Ma . . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 28 Mar 04 - 02:08 AM LadyJean - shouldn't you be back on time? Has anyone noticed that Mudcat actually has a different time? Everytime I post, my post is recorded at a time about 3 minutes faster than my PCs time (and my PC's clock is accurate to broadcast times). For example my PC records the time: 2:04AM exactly as I hit the submit button. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 28 Mar 04 - 02:09 AM Spooky huh? It's 2:05 in the real world and 2:09 at Mudcat - watch above. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Peace Date: 28 Mar 04 - 02:16 AM My PC now says 12:05 am. |

Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Jeanie Date: 28 Mar 04 - 04:48 AM "Summertime, And the livin's confusin'....." We fine people of the British Empire [ where, of course, the sun never sets ;) ] changed our clocks to Summer Time, one hour forward, between Saturday and today (Sunday, the last time I looked), BUT I see that Daylight Saving Time in USA and Clocks Forward Day in Canada isn't going to happen until next weekend..... Oh, I give up. Maybe someone could draw a Venn Diagram ? Even betterm to quote another song: "Let's put out the lights and go to sleep." - jeanie (10.44 a.m. Essex Time) |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: freda underhill Date: 28 Mar 04 - 04:55 AM we've just finished daylight savuings this weekend, as we move into winter.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: freda underhill Date: 28 Mar 04 - 07:18 AM Giok's idea of a sort of shifting roster of an hour each, all over the world, which would get us in at similar times is worthwhile. i'm still having trouble reading everything upside down here is syd, and now that daylight savings has finished here, I've put the curtains back up. bring on the digital time revolution.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 28 Mar 04 - 09:43 AM I still think that the whole "seasons are opposite" thing in the Southern Hemisphere is weird. I'll never really believe it until I see it. Of course since I've lived in Florida for 25 years, it's been a while since I've seen snow, but at least I can see THAT on TV. How do I know that I am seeing current conditions in Australia on the TV? |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Peace Date: 28 Mar 04 - 05:04 PM If you want to know current conditions, LOOK AT THE OCEANS! |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 28 Mar 04 - 09:11 PM Oh yeah - that'll be easy - I'll have you know that I'm 45 miles from the Atlantic and 70 miles from the Gulf. Yeah, like I am going to just drop everything and go look at the ocean! |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: GUEST,freda Date: 29 Mar 04 - 01:50 AM aparat from the ocean, for currant conditions, anothger option is to check out the vinyards in mildura, late summer.. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 29 Mar 04 - 01:54 AM time test It's currently 1:50AM - what's Mudcat say? |

Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 29 Mar 04 - 02:06 AM Nope - just checking if Mudcat is still 4 minutes ahead of "standard time" |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: John MacKenzie Date: 29 Mar 04 - 03:41 AM Sorry to be pedantic Blachcatter, but standard time is GMT. John |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Blackcatter Date: 29 Mar 04 - 11:07 AM Hey John, I actually meant the minutes - not time zone thingies. |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: Peace Date: 29 Mar 04 - 05:07 PM However, even the time zone stuff is wrong. A person with two watches never knows what time it is. The wall clock, computer clock and Mudcat clock all say something different. One says, whirr, one says tick, tick, . . . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Greenwich Mudcat Time From: freda underhill Date: 29 Mar 04 - 05:12 PM You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable. You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons. Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing. Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness, And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream. khalil gibran |

I am going to put this on my timesheets at work now, it solves a lot of fiddle faddlying around. and it actually negates any need for any time, Greenwich Mean, Mudcat Happy, digital, clockwork, solar or stellar - in fact, you have just solved the problem put forward at the beginning of this thread. in tconsideration of Bob's observation that "TIME IS FICTION!" I NOW DECLARE THE THREAD OFFICIALLY CLOSED! (does that mean i get to be the last person who posts?) freda u. |
