Hey Fat B****rd, I never knew it was Howard Spring who wrote 'Shabby Tiger' or that he wrote a sequel (Rachel Rosing being the character played by Sharon Mughan of course!). Not only a Fat B****rd, but also a Clever B***er!! :0)

But I can still remember Prunella Gee swimming naked in the pond................!!!

Cheers Mate,
Johnny :0)

PS - I almost typed Prunella Scales - not quite the same thing eh?

My sister and I used to like to watch Monty Python, and then the PTL Club immediately after, in the same spirit.

I too loved Green Acres and believe it holds it's own in intellectual depth with anything on t.v. ever.

Sopranos, but I wait for video.

NYPD blue used to be very good, and is okay. But for all the attention it recieved I've never met anyone else who watched it.

The Practice is pretty darn good sometimes.

Long commercials for Hits Of The Whatever Decade cds. I love those.

Kolchack the Night Stalker--long time ago my favorite show.

A new show, The D.A. is pretty well-constructed in plot and also fascinatingly bad in execution. Really bad acting, amazingly amateur dialogue.

Recess is good--last night saw one where the crabby old teacher had a sign taped on her back "point at me and whisper". Arthur isn't bad--I liked when Yo Yo Ma was on and D.W. kept calling him Yo Mama. And my kids love Extreme Home Makover.

RangerSteve, I loved Green Acres. The show really poked fun at itself and at television in general. I remember one episode where Eddie Albert was standing around giving one of his patriotic speeches about the importance of the farm or something, and there was a fife playing patriotic music in the background. One of the characters turns to another and says "every time he starts a speech that music comes up, where is it coming from?"    I love shows that knock down that wall.

My favorite defunct shows: Burns and Allen, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the Dick Van Dyke Show, Bob Newhart, Green Acres (go ahead, sneer, look down your noses, I don't care), and Amos & Andy. That last one will earn me some dislike, but I've known a lot of black people who thought it was a great show, too.

Modern shows: Law & Order - all three versions, Antiques Road Show -the American version, The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, Keeping Up Appearances.

I would have put Friends and Frazier on the list, but I think both shows have overstayed their welcome.

After watching the news and political commentary, I generally need to get back to something a bit more sane. That's when I watch an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Oooh how could I have forgotten the Muppet Show and the first years of Sat Nite Live?? Especially the former, as it was one of the only shows I saw on Greek TV during the 70s. It was subtitled, so I would be laughing my head off while the people around me shook their heads wondering why. As I learned to read more Greek, and read the subtitles and realized how poorly the translations were, I not only mourned for their loss, but also began to understand how much else is lost in translation between countries. Poor Kermit and Miss Piggy, Greece missed out understanding some great cultural role models!..xx..e

Funny how tastes vary, there are at least 3 of Dinner Lady's choices that I would go to the end of the world to avoid. Still it's good that we're not all the same, I've watched the Benny Hill show dubbed in Portuguese, and I've read Asterix in the oridinal French, By Toutatis! So at least some humour travels.
Anybody else in the UK loving 2DTV?

I refuse to acknowledge any episodes of Due South after they switched Rays. I had a hard enough time when they switched Diefenbakers, but as that was mostly a non-speaking part, I could deal.

Giok, thanks mate - I'd completely forgotten 'Rock Follies'. Fantastic! Rula Lenska - Ggggggrrrrrruuummmpphhhhhhh!!!! Sex on a stick! And Julie Covington - great voice and excellent actress.

And it reminded me of a series called 'Shabby Tiger', which was the vehicle for the first TV appearances of Prunella Gee and the wonderful Sharon Mughan, former star of the Gold Blend adverts (now changed her name to Maughan because that's what everyone calls her). Brilliant story, great scenery, superb acting (if a bit 'seventies').

I'm going to lie down in a darkened room now.

I agree with you Ellenpoly - UK tv is abysmal these days. I'm temporarily housebound and can't stand the pap that passes for entertainment much of the time. Thank goodness for DVD and video. I' part way through watching series three of B5 on DVD - superb series - can't wait for the remainder to become available.

From the past-

Bonanza
Ed Sullivan
Dr Kildare
Smother's Bros
TWTWTW
Twilight Zone

In the 70s, I was out of the country, and didn't watch much telly. On my return I caught up with;

Star Trek
Monty Python
Masterpiece Theatre

And more recently-

Star Trek NG
Babylon 5
The Simpsons
Buffy/Angel
The Office
West Wing
6 Feet Under
ER

Funnily enough, I watch far more TV here in England, than I did back in the States, and most of them are American Shows at least six months old! The state of British Television has sadly declined to shows on cooking, DYI, gardening, and far too many "real people doing crap things" for me to count.

PS-Not asked for but I'm including it here anyway...the ALL-TIME WORST TV program I can ever remember seeing was "Boudicca".
