Just seen an interesting docu (BBC TV) from Hull. It featured an ex Parachute Regiment guy who'd got head injuries from an an assault outside a nightclub. Cctv footage showed him lying unconcious, face down in his own blood and vomit, on a police-station floor. Police officers watched him and discussed the extent to which he was faking it, and after 11 minutes he was dead. His name was Chris Alder. An Afro-Caribbean.

That was in 1998. An inquest jury decided his death had been unlawful, but no-one has been convicted of any charge in relation to it. Alas, this is not Iraq otr Uzbekistan, but the good old UK.

Hi Peter,
Christopher Alder was a young black guy that died in police custody, as you mention, the officers on duty at the time were charged with neglect, but not convicted, his sister Janet is running a campaign to get justice for her dead brother.
If anyone is interested in this case put "Christopher Alder" into your search engine.

I've just read on Google that David Blunkett has ordered a fresh review into this case.

The inquest into his death returned a verdict of Unlawful Killing, but to date, nobody has been convicted, [despite CCTV footage showing police officers stood about, laughing and joking while he died].

Small point, as shocking as this incident is, the police officers didn't kill him, they didn't save him.

Inquest on 24th August 2000 verdict "Unlawfull Killing"

The five Police Officers were charged with manslaughter and tried. The jury was directed to find them all "Not Guilty" on the grounds of reasonable doubt as to conflicting evidence with regard cause of death and contributing factors.
