Since I can't do blue clickies I thought I'd make a new thread the title of which was a bit more definite about THE party.

The title of the old thread with all the details is RE: Summer House/garden session??????

The original thread is here.

Richard - you're a big boy now - it's ever so easy to do clickies, there's even a special tool to help you now. Just copy the URL (that's the web address which displays in the Address box at the top of the browser) of the page you want to link to onto the clipboard. Then when you're composing your posting, click on the "Make a link ("blue clicky")" link at the bottom right of the text box. Paste the previously copied URL into the Link URL box, type the text (eg in the link above - here) into the text box and click "Make Link". The constructed link will be displayed and can be copied and pasted into the posting text.

Note: if the link is to somewhere else on the mudcat site you can remove the http://www.mudcat.org/ from the front of the URL - if it's not on the mudcat site you MUST have // at the front somewhere.

Hint: it's easiest to open a second browser window (File -> New -> Window) for the site/page that you're making the link to.

Sorry Noreen - crossposted, but Richard is big, old, and ugly enough (he's even a solicitor) to do his own links.

Are we going to be able to attract you and Stewart all the way down to the SE then ? - See you at the Eurogathering - love Dave.

I love the way Richard's original notice goes - starts off with good news, the musical stuff and that - and then gradually get's into the stuff about man-eating dogs and feral cats and psychotic neighbours... I exaggerate - but I can imagine a lovely Les Barker type piece along those lines...

We,ve decided to join the 20th century, and try this new found computor thing out. Slats and his mad red head will be co-hosting this party, Slats is a friendly old thing, but beware his wife, she,s more deadly than the dog or the cat. It could be another verse in a Les Barker song.If anyone is desperate we might be able to fit a few in our house for the night its about a mile from Richards across the fields.

Subject: RE: Party North Kent May 29
From: Richard Bridge

Yes, the original thread does say it's a co-hosted event. I do nothing without relevant approval! Well, nearly nothing...

But I recognise that typing, and it ain't Slats himself it's t'other one, isn't it? I reckon you should get your own cookie, as, say, "Dilligaff".

We could even have a quiz at the party what Dilligaff meant (all members of Bishop Gundulph and Woddard and Dead Horse, particularly Dead Horse himself and Dr Will CU Now, are hereby disqualified 'cos they already know).

Of course Dave will now have to attend to give first aid... (in joke, from last Friday at the Greyhound).

It had been suggested to me that my original posting was a bit too close to my personal sense of humour to translate readily into even other regions of the UK, much less other countries, but I'm glad to see McGrath got it. Perhaps a song for the event, along the lines of Lehrer's "Irish Folk Song"...    McGrath, the glove is down!

There is a welcome thread for Slats here.

For those of you with air-rifles, I bet the wood pigeons (and sometimes seagulls) at my barbie are bigger and fatter and more barbecue-able than the budgerigars at Dave's...

Indeed I saw a heron on my neighbour's chimney-stack once. Not surprising as Europe's biggest heronry is about three miles away, at High Halstow, but one would be a challenge to get on the barbecue.

So who's coming then?

Let's get some arguments started now, so we can pick them up on the day!!

I may have a local soprano coming who will make Dave sound Quiet!

Should we allow fish on the barbie?

Was the Mirror right to use suspect evidence to ilustrate an actual problem?

Have 12-strings actually been MADE to tune below E in Spanish tuning, or are there simply some that are badly made and will not stand it, or some players who preferred to sing in different ranges?

Do you split a neck mortice, with steam or dry heat?

Should we allow Irish music in England? Is it "folk" outside Ireland?

What should we call stuff like Neil Young? Is it Folk, Filk, contemporary acoustic, or contemporary acoustic-style American music, or 60's nothing in particular?

What should a polite host do if he only has one spare barbecue and an observant Muslim and an observant Jew both turn up at the barbie? Where does he put the milk and butter?

Should people wait their turn at a singaround? At a party who ought to run the sinaground?

Should I have got local beer rather than a Midland beer?

etc???

Well, I've built the stand for the barrel of beer.

And arranged to borrow several barbecues, and a quantity of garden furniture.

You'd better all come.

Oh, and I've discovered the pub next door has a bouncy castle that day, so I might have to get one of the smaller PA rigs out, or would anyone like to volunteer to go next door to borrow the lovely little children so we can put them on the barbecue?

Excellent news Woodsie.

A bunch of reprobates from Medway are also organising a minibus so they can all get drunk and still go home, and then come back for their cars in the morning (so they can all arrive at different times).

I think the long suffering Dave Bryant is being used as transport by a bunch of others including Sue Tuckey.

God it's only just over a week away. Yes Linda has definitely offered Sue a lift (in my car) - I don't know who else I'm supposed to be bringing though - I'm sure she'll let me know !

By all means bring it - if we scare all the pigeons away you can still use it to deflate the bouncy castle in the pub garden so we can get some peace to educate them by singing the Old Man from Over the Sea.

Or one of the ruder versions of The Threshing Machine.

Or Twice Daily.

Just don't shoot the dogs or any guests (except Sue if she sings).

And if Sprout and John (local travellers) come you will get a lecture on the superiority of the longbow or crossbow or catapult. Plus a request for harecoursing songs.

I am in possession of a six foot long blowpipe, accurate at ranges of up to 6ft 6in, made by aboriginal midgets as a silent but deadly means of perforating bouncy castles. I shall bring said weapon if I can lay my hands on a suitable roof rack. Darts are part of the package. Lungs required.
Any takers?

Richard - yes I picked up your PM (Incidently most of it was for Linda - why didn't you PM Essex Girl ?).

Ken - How long is the actual blowpipe - 6ft 5in ? Incidently make sure that the target is a Bouncy Castle and not Dilligaf sunbathing !

Subject: RE: Party North Kent May 29

Dave - one of your senior moments, in practice for after your party?

The PM explained - it was much easier to trip over a post from you to send you a PM than one from Essex Girl.

Also, Dead Horse's post explains - his blowpipe is 6 feet (he says so).

Now if his blowpipe is that long, perhaps that explains Kay's dancing. You'd wriggle a bit too, wouldn't you?

Also you can easily tell the difference between a bouncy Castle and Dilligaf sunbathing. On a bouncy castle the children on top are screaming. Errr....wait a minute....something wrong here....does not compute....fizz, spark, pop.

Subject: RE: Party North Kent May 29
From: Richard Bridge
Date: 24 May 04 - 02:53 AM

Progress continues:

Various guests are promising me a syllabub, a chilli con carne to a recipe learned in Mexico, and 40 jacket-sized potatoes. Another who does a little light poaching (very "Rufford Park") is talking about quantities of rabbit and pigeon.

It looks as if garden furniture promised will amount to about 40 chairs plus various tables and parasols.

There will be two gazebos. And 3 barbecues, and a hibachi reserved for El Halal/kosher with separate utensils. I am told that the slaughter requirements for both are the same, and that those who need El-Halal can eat kosher. Does anyone know if the reverse applies as well? I have a nagging feeling about a religious procedure for meat to be kosher. El-Halal (I am told) requires the name of the deity to have been uttered, and accepts that most of the principal deities are for this purpose equivalent. Does anyone know about the mirror equivalent (or not as the case may be).

The summerhouse is almost tidy.

The front garden is presentable.

I have a sign ready to put on the telegraph pole.

I have dug out another barrowload of weeds.

There are some tins of lager and (from Val and Pete) 3 litres of Soave in the garage fridge, and Val and Pete will also be bringing some red wine from their recent booze cruise(s). Beer will arrive Thursday. I've personally washed about 50 plaztic beer mugs for those who arrive without tankards.

If you are all very good (or bad) Val and Pete are also (maybe) going to make a punch, having recently been to Spain and come back with a considerable quantity of brandy - it was at a price there at which it would have been rude not to!! Be warned it is likely to be suitable only for those not driving!!!

We've found the plastic plates and cutlery.

Spare beds and futons are aired and have clean sheets. 7 sleeping bags and 4 lilos and a camp bed located.

There were earlier enquiries about parking for caravans - I can park two in my drive but they will probably have to be manhandled in.

I have almost decided to have a PA rig ready for use in case of need probaby only a little one, about 500 watts, but if local noise is not too bad it's much nicer just to sit around and play acoustic so let's all hope - but I remember at the Fenn Bell, My Guru Said had to sing a song harder than she would have preferred to get over noise, and in cases like that the PA might enable audibility without having to spoil the dynamic of the song.

Incidentally Guru, do we still expect you?

Err...

What's the forecast like????

If the weather is bad, the drawing room is large, and has a conservatory on the side, and I'll just have to move the furniture around a bit.

We have two gazebos planned Dave, but if you can get on in the boot of the car, if it looks showery we could put another up.

I also have some large-ish lightweight tarpaulins but figuring out what to attach them to could be tricky.

If this becomes a regular event, I must investigate methods of attaching awnings to the house, as you do.

Beer now on trestle and settling in the shade - for tapping tomorrow. I'll try not to drink it all before you lot get here.

Incidentally, for all those who think I still live in Higham, I don't, and if you go to my old house in Higham, or the big house that used to be the old almshouse near the Copperfield (used to be the Duke of York) on the Gravesend Road, (where I have never lived at all) you will be disappointed (or have a lucky escape, as the feeling suits). No names no packdrill.

Lower Stoke is the place, and it's quite near the Isle of Grain. Dave put up a link to a map on the earlier thread, so CHECK IT.

I put up the house name on the telegraph pole yesterday as well.

What's the beer in Richard ? If it's in a barrel, put an old towel over it and keep it nice and damp - the evaporation will keep the beer cool. Unfortunately the cardboard boxes that Polypins are usually in, tend to go soggy with the same treatment.

I hope my 15gals of beer (5gals each of Porter/Old, Best Bitter, and Amber Ale) clear nicely for the following weekend.
