That is because the River Jordan is a frequent theme in Gospel music, both African American and Southern White. Bluegrass as well. SOL ZELLER

Out of curiosity I put "Jordan" in in the Mudcat search of the Digital Tradition; it came up with 32 songs. None of them were this one though.

By the way, the tune to the English Version of "There Are 2 Sides To The Jordan" is identical to the Hebrew one. The same holds true for Oh What A Beautiful Morning. SOL ZELLER

When I was 13 years old in camp ( I am 61 now), I was awakened every day to the Hebrew version of the song. The person who sang it (over the camp p.a. system), was a Hungarian Jew who emigrated to Israel after the Holocaust and then found his way to the USA. Unfortunately, he is no longer alive. I did not know that an English version existed, until a girl I went out with once while I was a student at Brooklyn College happened to sing it to me. I lost track of her 38 years ago, but she is living somewhere in Israel today. She also sang me the Hebrew lyrics to Oh What A Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma of which I only remember the first line "Kama yafeh hu haboker, Kama yafeh hu hayowm". I am contemplating starting a separate thread to rediscover all those lyrics. SOL ZELLER

It could be worth contacting the owner of that site - he may have the words, or a pointer to them somewhere. If you find them, please post the English version here. Also a tune might be handy, now that you have piqued our interest.

For a while my sentiments were with Menachem Begin and his Irgun Zvi Leumi revisionists. I hummed their hymn, Shtai gedot layarden, zu skelanu zu gam ken ("There are two sides to the Jordan and that is ours too") but that didn't last.

When I was a young child 53 years ago I went to a camp which was very Zionist oriented. Some of the counselors thre sang a song which was supposed to be the theme song of the right wing Revisionist party in Israel. The title of the song was "There Are 2 Sides To The Jordan". Although the original song was written in Hebrew, there was an English version that was quite popular in various Jewish camps in the early 1950s. If anyone has those lyrics, I would like to obtain them. Thanks. SOL ZELLER
