Just read in the paper, that Anthony Ainley, who played the Master in Doctor Who, has gone to the Eternal Timelord in the sky. Found the BBC link here

His Master was a sinister presence, that frightened young Doctor Who fans everywhere.

Unlike the Daleks, whose plans for universal domination were scuppered by the fact, they could only move on metal, The Master, turned up when you didn't expect him to, and always with evil intent.

RIP Anthony Ainley

Not all Dr. Who fans were all that young. I usually made time for Dr. Who and would do so again if I had the chance. Mr. Ainley was a master at playing the Master and I wish him peace.

I liked both Master on Doctor Who. The first master was played by Roger Delgado (during John Pertwee's reign) and passed away quite awhile ago as well. Sorry to hear of Anthony's passing.

I didn't realise he'd died! He was the first Master I saw. Mind you, I'm too young to remember him when it was originally broadcast.

Hmmm.

I'm not the Dr Who fan in the house - that's my wife Patricia! The ABC Australian Broadcasting Corporation is currently showing a Back to the Future retrospective of (selected episodes) of the whole Dr Who series ... the current one is in black & white ... and has The Master at his dastardly worst!

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Wonderful stuff all of the Dr Who series. Sadly Sidney Newman who created Dr Who and the concept (Terry Nation who is often credited, including for a while by Trivial Pursuit, only invented the Daleks) was not made a rich man by it.   He also died a few years back. I prize and therefore hardly ever wear an original bright green Dr Who shirt (sport shirt, like a Lacoste tennis shirt) Sidney gave me quite a lot of years ago in lieu of legal fees!
