As (possibly) the closest MU..dcatter to Old Trafford I thought I would be the first to gloat:-)

Millwall, always the underdogs, were just outclassed. The did put up a good fight though. I thought Denis Wise was unfairly treted by the commentators but his yellow card was deserved.

I am a non-follower believe it or not but always enjoy my local team doing good stuff!

And, American cousins, NO THIS SHOULD NOT BE BS!!! Football is music to many peoples ears. And when United are playing even more so. The only sad bit was that the singing at Cardiff was not up to it's usual standards. But that was omnly to be expected with two non-Welsh teams playing. Giggs aside of course.

To bring more music into it imagine the score if United had been playing Chelsea

Didn't watch it but had my father's report which said Millwall were scared of MU, didn't go for it and were playing negatively. If that's true, I say shame - I'd rather them lost 6 nil and fought than 3 nil in a damage limitation game. I'd of course rather they had won - I don't like the filthy rich clubs who pay obscene money in wages.

Agreed on the first bit at least, Jon - Denis's men should have just gone hell for leather! I agree about the rich clubs as well but MU have the distinction of becoming so by investing in young players rather than buying foreign talent. Remember the Busby Babes? I know that Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy are bought in but The Nevilles, Giggs and even Beckham were brought in as apprentices. If MU can do it - how come others can't?

How are things by the way, Jon. Not seen you since the Yorkshire gathering 3 or 4 years ago (If it is Jon F that is!)

Re the Busby Babes: Yep. I have to agree that was good policy and vision. (Still don't like the money in the game now though).

Going from memory from an article I read in a local rag (EDP I think) Beckham BTW had a trial for Norwich and was reported as being and exceptionally decent and likable young lad as well as someone they saw great future for. Problem was after being accepted, he confessed he had also just been accepted for MU. Which way would you have gone as a young kid?!!!!

I think the bigger clubs do even have the bigger drawing power that way and smaller clubs do struggle even with youth policies. There have of course been notable achievements. Think Crewe and Dario Grady are a good example.

Did Big Tim hear the best singing I have ever heard from a soccer crowd, the Celtic supporters sang "You`ll never walk alone" like a Welsh choir, it was really beautiful and moving as they bade farewell to goal scoring hero Henrik Larrson.
And of course Celtic won 3-1 with Henrik scoring twice, but the singing will live in my memory.

Thanks Jon and Ard Mharcha:) The singing I heard from the Scottish match sounded far better than the English one! Perhaps we had better get Welsh imports for both...

Reading the article Jon points us to remeinded me of the very strange conversation on the radio following whatsernames allagations about David B. A rather 'Essex' (sorry to anyone from there but you know what I mean...) young lady phoned in.

"Who are you favouring" asks the presenter.

"Victoria" says out heroine. "After all, if it wasn't for her David would still be just a footballer..."

I nearly drove the car off the road laughing!

I remember the Busby Babes. In 1957 I had the privelage of seeing the Busby Babes defeated by the no hopers of Aston Villa in the FA Cup. It was wonderful.
Having said that, one of the saddest things happend the next year, the munich disaster. I swear blind that it was that incident that put me off flying.

It must be one of the first FA cup finals that I haven't watched since I was 11.

Why because it was always going to be one sided. Couldn't be bothered.

Watched the cricket instead.

But what a great one, as shown by the numbers around the Globe that share that interest!

For me this season was a good one, as Portsmouth, My local Premiership side made a good showing after a terrible midseason, and we even got to beat MU.

Hey Blackcatter - what would an American (I assume you are one of those) know about interesting sports? Any game requiring of its participants and spectators the possession of more than one brain-cell is totally beyond their comprehension. That's why you play Baseball instead of Cricket - Crickets too difficult and complicated for you guys to understand. Incidentally, baseball's a game played by wee lassies here, they call it 'Rounders' and play with a smaller bat, but it's the same game and no self-respecting male over the age of seven would be seen dead playing it, it's for sissies.

And have you never wondered why the 'World Series' ('World' indeed! Ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaa!!) has no teams in it other than ones from the US? It's not because you have the best teams, it's because it's so stultifyingly boring no one else is interested enough to enter! Duh!

I have attended "sport" in the US and I feel real sorry for you, trained gorillas would shine at gridiron [a lovely name for this game], and well Baseball not too many heart attacks watching this.
Lucky old me livimg in Ireland and what a choice, Gaelic games, Football and Hurling unsurpassed for excitment and skill, and Rugby and Soccer as well,some people have all the luck.

The Villian, I`m surprised you overlooked the man from the County Down, Newry`s own Peter McParland who pratically single-handed. [not Maradona]beat Man Utd that day, he scored both Villas goals and was responsible for inflicting the injury to Utd`s `keeper Wood. Woods departure from the game was too much of a handicap for Utd and thanks to McParland Villa held on to win.

I didn't want to say too much about Peter McParland. My hero in those days.

Unfortunately, Man U supporters who are old enough to remember, still hate him and blame his actions on them losing. I think it was great, and I was in tears when we won.

I firmly believe that Ray Woods was the instigator there. He invited Peter to go for the ball, so he did and Ray Woods came off worse. Serves him damn well right.

I think I might still be able to remember the players of AV on that day.

Its funny how I can remember that from 1957, but can't remember my name now :-)
